Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Typewave.
  1. What makes Typewave unique?

It’s a small desktop app for people who write a lot on Windows (Mac too). You talk, and the words show up in whatever you were already typing in, Outlook, Word, Slack, a browser field. High accuracy and fast transcription speed are what people are looking for.

Both Windows and Mac versions are native and therefore very lightweight. We offer both fast cloud and on-device transcriptions. Zero data retention in both modes.

  2. Why should a person choose Typewave over its competitors?

The Windows native dictation struggles with accuracy. Dragon is powerful but expensive. A lot of newer apps feel like Mac-first. Typewave works system-wide, auto removes filler words, and offers free dictation (up to weekly limit). A local mode for users who value privacy

  3. How would you describe the primary audience of Typewave?

People on Windows who type all day, especially anyone who tried Win+H (like myself) or Dragon and got annoyed. Mostly knowledge workers in email, docs, and chat who want to speak faster than they type without opening a separate speech page.

  4. What's the story behind Typewave?

It started as a personal needs. I type a lot on Windows. The built-in voice typing kept making mistakes and stopping after a short pause. I tried other tools (won't name them) but they want to take screenshot of your entire screen for "context awareness" which I'm not comfortable with. So we built a quiet desktop app: hit a shortcut, speak, keep working. Switch between cloud and local transcription anytime.

  5. Which are the primary technologies used for building Typewave?

Windows app is native .NET Macos is Swift Cloud transcription goes through our Nextjs API

  6. Who are some of the biggest customers of Typewave?

We are still early stage. Users today are mostly individuals on Windows - writers, insurance brokers/agents, realtors, and people grinding email and docs.
