From the other comments, I haven't tried tooljet (https://tooljet.io) or budibase (https://budibase.com) but I did have a look at those apps. This, for me, was easiest to try out. And quite impressive, honestly. The key point was that in each table, the 'title' column (created by default) has a special meaning as they show up in the join columns cleanly. Amazing and congratulations. - Source: Hacker News / almost 4 years ago

ToolJet has emerged as a noteworthy player in the low-code development platform (LCDP) arena, particularly for its open-source, versatility, and user-friendly experience. Positioned alongside competitors like Airtable, NocoDB, Budibase, Retool, Appsmith, PocketBlocks, and Bubble.io, ToolJet is making a distinctive mark among businesses and developers looking for accessible low-code solutions.
ToolJet empowers users to create web and mobile applications with minimal coding expertise, leveraging a drag-and-drop interface, pre-built templates, and an array of components for expedient application development. The platform shines in its capability to integrate with popular databases and various external services, allowing for dynamic and interactive application creation. This makes it highly suitable for small businesses and individual developers seeking cost-efficient yet robust development solutions.
The public perception of ToolJet has been generally favorable, largely due to its open-source nature which fosters a collaborative environment among developers. There's a recurring emphasis on the ease of use and the quick setup process both on the cloud and local machines, as highlighted across multiple mentions and tutorials. Users frequently praise ToolJet for its simplicity and the ability to construct diverse applications rapidly, from CRM systems and recruitment management apps to coupon code managers and WhatsApp CRM tools.
In comparison to other LCDPs, ToolJet is often pitched against Appsmithโanother well-known platform in the same space. Various discussions and blog posts have put these two in a head-to-head analysis to discern which offers a better value proposition for different use cases. ToolJet occasionally gains a competitive edge due to its affordability, the democratization of app development through its open-source framework, and user-friendly documentation.
ToolJet's flexibility is showcased in its support for importing packages using Micropip and seamless integration capabilities with services like PostgreSQL and Google Sheets. This flexibility furnishes developers with the tools necessary to expand upon default functionalities tailored to specific project needs. Developers also appreciate ToolJet for its self-hosting options, which provide more control over the deployment environment compared to other solutions limited to cloud hosting.
In summary, ToolJet stands out as a compelling choice within the no-code and low-code spectrum, particularly for developers and small businesses seeking an affordable, easily adaptable, and extensive development platform. Its open-source model and active community continue to bolster its standing as a viable alternative to proprietary LCDPs, granting it a stronghold in applications that require swift and efficient development workflows. As the LCDP market continues to evolve, ToolJet's commitment to simplicity, ease of use, and community involvement appears well-positioned to cater to emerging needs in the ever-growing tech development landscape.
