  • Biology Field Lab Request
Check out Google Earth Engine for your school environment and see what questions the kids generate from a birds eye view and then go out and do some ground-truthing. Maybe for your area you can see more trees since 1984, or maybe urban expansion. Discuss impervious surfaces and urban runoff and nonpoint source pollution and the garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean and plastic recycling or do a trash pick-up or... Source: about 1 year ago

  • Stew, you did this to yourself, really buddy.
Worth taking a look at the loss of green in google timelapse - see https://earthengine.google.com/timelapse/ Time to build up rather than build out. Hungry tree monster must stop. And plant more trees, bike lanes, community gardens out of half the parking lots. And maybe convert one of those parking lots into an airship hangar :) Vertical transport of both goods and people is the way, in the long run. No highways... Source: over 1 year ago
  • Will Salt Lake City become the next Salton City?
Lies the Salton Sea has been shrinking for years but especially within the past 10 years when the Imperial Irrigation District began huge water diversions to sell to San Diego. This has caused the lake shore to recede immensely, you can see it in satellite photos. Just go and plug in Bombay Beach on this site and as soon as the timeline hits 2003 the lake begins drastically shrinking. Both lakes are shallow... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • This might sound inflammatory and/or belong in a "No Stupid Questions" forum, but I ask in all sincerity... why is important to Save Old Growth?
The the impact of logging industry is not always visible. It may seem like a lot of the forest in BC is untouched but if you take a look at satellite footage from 1984 - now on google timelapse, it's quite amazing how much has been logged and how little is untouched. https://earthengine.google.com/timelapse/. • Which areas of the US do you think will be the best for STRs over the next 10 years?
Buying real-estate hoping it will appreciate in value is speculation and is gambling. Buying real-estate for rental income is investing. Buy where there are permanent industries with reliable wages. Logging, mining, critical port city, etc. Invest along strong national infrastructure arteries. Go on google maps and zoom out to a country level and slowly go back in. The major infrastructure lines will pop out... Source: about 2 years ago
  • Beijing 2022 venues from the sky (before/after)
It's difficult to grasp the scale until you use that Google Earth Timelapse tool or start looking up even a fraction of the infrastructure they've built. Below are links to a just a few that make the "largest, tallest, longest" list of top infrastructure projects in the world. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Nice integration
They should focus on using the three gorges dam reservoir for floating solar and to shade the river. And perhaps use land that is relatively incapable of growing things instead - what about the sand dunes to the east? https://earthengine.google.com/timelapse/. Source: over 2 years ago
