  • Ask HN: Why are modern devices so terrible at accurate timekeeping?
I experience time drift with devices not connected to NTP like cheap stopwatch/microwave clock/etc, but my all my devices connected to NTP stay synced on their own. For example: - my Windows time settings says: "Last successful time synchronization: 3/7/2024..." (This ~41 hours ago and not manually triggered.) - https://time.is/: "Your clock is 0.4 seconds ahead." I'm a little surprised there is a 0.4 second... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • [Timex] Q Marmont 1975 Reissue, love at first sight!
It's my first quartz watch and I love it to bits! Made me realize that the accuracy of a quartz movement is no joke. I knew nothing much about watches until I started this hobby back in September, and I've still got lots to learn! But from the little I've learned so far, lots of videos say how accurate quartz is, but I didn't realize how accurate it was until I was cleaning some of my mechanical watches. Seikos, a... Mostly I will do soft trails and maybe in 1 or 2 years after I will progress some harder ones.Maybe is better to buy a cheap one then upgrade over time.is is really that good the fork on the h10 Fox 34 Float Performance 140 3-Position vs the h30 Marzocchi Bomber Z2 140 ? • [Question] How did people keep track of time in the early 1900's?
Was wondering, because I put my mechanical watch and digital correct to the second via time.is , how people years ago had to correct time differences? Source: over 1 year ago
  • Canada Abruptly Ends Official Time Signal
I just tested it against https://time.is on my cell phone (using wifi calling because network strength is abysmal where I live). I don't have a precise measurement but it was imperceptibly close, within 100ms probably. Certainly close enough to set a clock for non critical purposes. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Strange infinitas bug
To see if this is the same issue, I would check https://time.is/ and refresh the page several times over a few minutes or so to check if that "accuracy synchronization" number gets bigger when you refresh. If so, maybe the BIOS update might fix it for you as well. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Time.is as time server in ElevenClock
Is there a way to use time.is as the time server for Windows/ElevenClock? Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Why does ISS Transit Finder not match Planetarium Apps?
Using just that website and time.is I was able to film a transit a few months ago. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • [Discussion] A game for watch enthusiasts
Compare the time of your watch every night to that of an accurate timekeeper. https://time.is is a good example. You need to know whether to speed up or slow down your watch and by how many seconds. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • SBGA401 Spring Drive Watch. Not even 1 regret with this beauty. 😍😍😍
I set the time according to time.is. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Why haven't my silos been filling for the last 3 days?
It was working fine for a week after I set them up, then this weekend it stopped working. They are all powered by energy extractors, not solar. One of the bases has a battery and it's 100% full always. I checked my clock using https://time.is and it was 1 minute behind, but I don't think a difference of that much would affect anything. I synced my time anyway so now it's exact. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • When do the daily challenges reset?
Daily challenges reset at midnight local time. Depending on the device you are on, say PC, you can literally change your time by an hour or two and get daily challenges a bit late or early. But, I don't know what the daily challenges have to do the invasion event. You DON'T get XP for completing them. You ONLY get XP for being in public rooms. If you are under level 50, that has a daily cap and that resets at... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • An argument for why we need to start hoarding books and textbooks immediately.
NTP is necessary to make the internet and our digital lives function. Having accurate time is vital; otherwise things fail in unexpected ways. Here's a plug for https://time.is/ so check to see how much clock drift your computer has - it's fun! Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Timecode-synced video and audio: Is it really so much to ask???
Network Time Protocol can do it anywhere there is internet access. It does it by measuring the path delay and is easily accurate to 1/120 second. Check out time.is. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • I can't update Void
As for the system time, I always check it with this site (https://time.is/) which tells you how wrong your clock is. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • UZ Gent appointment issues
Before you mess with your time settings, go to time.is, it tells you whether your time is set correctly. If you combine an incorrect time with an incorrect timezone in an attempt to get Belgian time, your time will display correctly on your computer but it might lead to issues. That website will tell you. Source: about 2 years ago
  • I updated my time.is-like website for syncing remote video feeds! Hide and show it using Companion, change the timezone, and more!
Syncer.live is a tool similar to time.is, but targeted specifically for broadcasts that work with remote video feeds. It eliminates clock drift between systems and visualizes the current time using an easy-to-read progress bar. Once all progress bars are aligned, you're in sync! Source: about 2 years ago
  • Says are no active sessions
Check if your time is synct for example on https://time.is/ and if its a few seconds of try resyncing It. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Time Synchronization Issues in Windows 11
It's Holdem Manager 3. I'm not sure if they actually expect it to be to the millisecond - but when troubleshooting they always want a screenshot of time.is to compare with your system time. Maybe it doesn't need to be that accurate. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Do you need to slate with a clapperboard if you have timecode?
You hit the problem exactly. My point is that correct, accurate time is in the air everywhere for devices to lock to accurate time. If it's a camera or sound recorder that's called "professional" locking to correct time (with provision to tell you it is not correct) should be the default. Certainly the cost of including an accurate clock would be relatively insignificant in even a $1,000 piece of equipment,... Source: about 2 years ago
  • r/formula1 x MultiViewer For F1 Watch Party - Sunday, June 14th, 15:00 / 3 PM CEST - What race should we watch?
To achieve the best sync, make sure your system clock is exact. You can easily check that by going here: https://time.is/ - If it says "Time is exact", you're good. If not, you should sync your time before joining the watch party. For Windows users, head to Windows Settings / Time & Language / Additional settings / Sync now. For Mac users, this should not be an issue. Linux users, you're nerds enough to figure... Source: about 2 years ago
