Because it's faster for what designers actually need: a few seconds of motion for a post, a poster, a cover or a specimen. After Effects can do all of this, but it takes an hour of keyframes and a template you're afraid to touch. Social-video tools have text effects, but they're baked in and can't be edited afterwards. In Swash you open a template, type your words, drop in a photo if you need one, pick a preset and export. There's a free plan without sign-up, and a Figma plugin to bring your layout in as it is.
Swash is a browser editor for motion design where text is the strongest part, not an afterthought. The type never gets rasterised: change the words, swap the font or fix a typo after the animation is done, and nothing breaks. Animators work per letter, word or line; there are 3D layouts, text on a path you draw yourself, variable-font axes in motion, shader effects, images and video as layers. Every template is a real project you can open and edit, not a preset you can only re-colour. Export to MP4, GIF or PNG happens in the browser, nothing is uploaded.

I'm Alexandra, a designer, and I make Swash on my own. It started as a tool for myself: every time I needed four seconds of animated text for a post I lost an hour in keyframes, and every fix meant redoing it. I wanted the type to stay editable all the way through, like in a layout tool. That grew into a full editor with templates, fonts, shaders and export, and now I'm building it in the open, adding what designers ask for.
