Just make sure to save your worlds and screenshots before installing it. Just go to the .minecraft folder and drag out the saves folder & screenshots folder, then delete the .minecraft folder.   Theres a lot of pirated launchers out there I personally use the Sklauncher (https://skmedix.pl/sklauncher), you can use skins and capes for free but it's kinda unstable.
