  • No, this is not a joke. Now you cant even rotate the view in free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If you just need a reader, give a shot to sioyek 😎. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Trying to setup LaTeX for either VSCode or Neovim and I'm in a bit of a predicament
The setup ended up being fully functional, with there being one small issue. The built-in pdf viewer is decent, but I find it lacking in customizability, so I decided to switch to sioyek (mind you I am on windows). Source: about 1 year ago
  • Microsoft to Replace Edge’s PDF Reader with Adobe Acrobat

  • You have been GNOMED!
Have a look at Sioyek, which is designed for reading journal papers and the like. I don’t think it has link previews so, if that’s a deal breaker, it won’t be for you. But it has lots of nice features that are helpful for reading technical documents. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Can someone point me to a GOOD pdf viewer???
My favorite is probably Sioyek, which uses the mupdf rendering library but has more features. Zathura can also be configured to use the mupdf library, and is somewhere in between the two in terms of features. Source: over 1 year ago
  • So I absolute hate the disorder of a plain white background. I find it very jarring to read. How hard and ridiculous would it be to code the pdf to look like lined paper, and have the text/equations be on these lines?
This is a completely different kind of solution, but you could consider fixing this "problem" on the side of the PDF viewing software, rather than at creation. Sioyek has features to switch out the default colors of the document you're viewing, and apply a visual rule to highlight the present line you're reading. As a plus, it would work with any document you read, not just those you create yourself, and if you... Source: over 1 year ago

  • Ask HN: Is there any decent API to download a paper given its name?
I am developing a PDF viewer designed for reading research papers[1]. One very useful feature that I would like to add is the ability to directly download and open a paper just by clicking on its name in the PDF file. I have implemented a version of this using PyPaperBot [2] which is not bad, but it is not as fast as I would like it to be (it uses scihub which doesn't have the best servers). By parsing the html... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
