Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Scrumpy.it.
  1. Who are some of the biggest customers of Scrumpy.it?

    • Fonky
    • Just released, so many more to come!
  2. What's the story behind Scrumpy.it?

Scrumpy was built by a backend developer with over ten years of experience, mostly at smaller companies, who often also wore the product owner hat. For most of that time his teams ran on Jira. It is powerful, but it felt slow, dated and easy to overpay for, with products, tiers and add-ons that were hard to fully understand.

Linear came closer: more modern and responsive, and he migrated teams to it. But as a developer with Product Owner tasks, the board is what mattered most to him, and with Linear's board you need to horizontally scroll or use hidden columns, while more than five teams pushed you onto a pricier tier.

So he built the board he always wished existed: one screen that shows everything you need and nothing you don't, fully customizable, with auto-assignment as stories move between lanes. The guiding belief is simple: minimal effort, maximum productivity, and a modern age deserves modern tools.

Because it is small and independent, there is no committee between users and the maker, and feature requests go straight to the person who writes the code.

  3. Why should a person choose Scrumpy.it over its competitors?

    • Clarity over complexity. Jira is powerful but slow, dated and easy to overpay for because the tiers and add-ons are hard to understand. Scrumpy shows your whole board on one screen with no training course required.
    • Pricing that respects you. $9 per editor per month ($7.50 billed annually), every feature included, unlimited stories and unlimited teams. No paywalled features, no surprise upgrades.
    • Free stakeholder access. Bosses, clients and stakeholders who only need to watch progress get unlimited free view-only seats, so you are never billed for people who do not edit.
    • No lock-in. Import from a Jira or Linear CSV, export everything as JSON whenever you want, and cancel anytime while keeping access to the end of the period.
    • You can shape it. Scrumpy is small and independent. There is no roadmap committee between you and the person building it. Feature requests are read directly and the good ones get built.
    • Try it risk-free. A 7-day free trial with full access, no credit card needed.
  4. What makes Scrumpy.it unique?

Scrumpy's defining idea is that everything you need lives on a single board, and nothing you don't. Most scrum tools force trade-offs once a team grows: in Linear, six or seven lanes mean scrolling sideways or hiding columns, and more than a handful of teams pushes you onto a pricier tier. Scrumpy is built so the board stays the center of gravity no matter how many lanes or teams you have. The board is fully customizable, including auto-assigning stories as you move them between lanes, so the workflow does the busywork for you.

The second thing that sets it apart is honesty in pricing. There is one flat plan, every feature included, no tiers to decode and no add-ons to overpay for. View-only seats are unlimited and free forever. That combination, a deliberately simple board plus deliberately simple billing, is rare in this category.

  5. How would you describe the primary audience of Scrumpy.it?

Small to mid-sized software and product teams that run scrum or kanban and feel that Jira is too heavy and Linear is too constraining or too expensive as they grow. The sweet spot is developers and product owners who live in the board day to day and want maximum visibility with minimal effort. It also serves the people around those teams: managers, clients and stakeholders who need to follow progress without editing, which is exactly who the free unlimited viewer seats are designed for. In short, pragmatic agile teams who value simplicity, transparent pricing and speed over enterprise feature sprawl.

  6. Which are the primary technologies used for building Scrumpy.it?

Back-end: Laravel 13 (PHP 8,5) Front-end: Vue 3 with TypeScript Glue between back and front-end: Inertia Styling: Tailwind CSS Build tooling: Vite Database: PostgreSQL Real-time: Laravel Reverb for live updates Hosting: Deployed on Laravel Cloud
