Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Scanou.
  1. What makes Scanou unique?

Scanou reads back every QR code before you can download it, and blocks any code that would not scan. It also checks color contrast and adjusts error correction when you add a logo. It handles both QR codes and barcodes in one tool: eleven QR code types, and eleven barcode symbologies (EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128, ITF-14, Data Matrix, GS1 Digital Link…) with automatic check digits. Dynamic QR codes can be edited after printing, including hosted contact cards and restaurant menus that update without reprinting.

  2. Why should a person choose Scanou over its competitors?

Many QR code tools deactivate your codes without warning once a trial or subscription ends. Scanou keeps dynamic codes active for 30 days after cancellation, then suspends them without ever deleting them, and they come back instantly when you resubscribe. The free plan includes 50 codes a month with no watermark. Bulk generation goes up to 5,000 codes from a CSV file, delivered as a ZIP or a print-ready A4 PDF sheet. The whole product is fully bilingual, French and English.

  3. How would you describe the primary audience of Scanou?

Small and medium businesses that print codes: restaurants (digital menus), shops and local producers (EAN-13 product barcodes), marketing and communication agencies (dynamic codes with scan analytics), and event organizers (bulk tickets and badges). Scanou is built with French-speaking Africa in mind, and serves French and English-speaking users worldwide.

  4. What's the story behind Scanou?

Scanou was founded in Dakar, Senegal, by Alpha, an entrepreneur who builds digital and automation tools for small businesses. Working with restaurants, shops and local producers, he saw the same problems over and over: QR codes printed too small to scan, menus reprinted every time a price changed, codes deactivated when a subscription ended, and producers unsure how to get a valid barcode to sell in supermarkets. Scanou was built to solve all of that in one reliable, affordable tool.

  5. Which are the primary technologies used for building Scanou?

React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Supabase (PostgreSQL, authentication, Edge Functions), Stripe for payments, Vercel for hosting, and Google Gemini for the AI design assistant.
