1. What makes Saylore unique?

   Most language apps test whether you can recognise a language. Saylore is built around producing it: the lesson itself is a conversation you speak out loud, and the AI tutor answers, then corrects you in the middle of the sentence rather than marking it wrong at the end. Pronunciation is scored word by word, so you can see exactly which sound cost you the point, and the app then drills that sound instead of the easy ones. Underneath sits a complete CEFR ladder from A1 all the way to C2 in all six languages — most apps stop at B2 — plus IELTS and TOEFL preparation with full-length mock tests in the same subscription.

2. Why should a person choose Saylore over its competitors?

   Choose Saylore if the thing you cannot do is speak. You get unlimited conversation with an AI tutor in every one of the six languages, pronunciation scored word by word, a complete A1-to-C2 course, and IELTS and TOEFL preparation with full-length mock tests in the same subscription rather than as a separate purchase.

   But it is not the right answer for everyone, and we would rather say so. Duolingo covers over 40 languages against our six, is free, and is better at building a daily habit. Babbel's lessons are written by linguists and it teaches languages we do not, such as Swedish, Dutch and Polish. Busuu gives you corrections from real native speakers and an official McGraw-Hill Education certificate, which we do not offer at all. Speak covers Korean, Japanese and Chinese, which we do not teach. If one of those is what you need, take it.

3. How would you describe the primary audience of Saylore?

   Adults who can already read a language but freeze the moment they have to say something in it. Typically that is someone who studied at school or has a long streak on another app, understands the grammar, and still cannot order a coffee without rehearsing the sentence first.

   Two groups within that. People preparing for IELTS or TOEFL, who need scored speaking and writing practice rather than more vocabulary. And learners whose own first language is not English — the interface and the grammar explanations run in seven languages, so you do not have to already know English in order to learn it, or to learn Spanish, German, French, Italian or Portuguese through it.

4. Which are the primary technologies used for building Saylore?

   • Mobile apps: React Native with Expo, one codebase for iOS and Android
   • Backend: Node.js and Express with PostgreSQL
   • Conversation and corrections: large language models, with the lesson content itself authored and stored by us rather than generated on the fly
   • Pronunciation assessment: Azure Speech, which is what produces the per-word score
   • Speech synthesis: Google and OpenAI voices, cached server-side so repeated words cost nothing
   • Delivery: over-the-air updates through Expo, so fixes reach people without waiting for a store review
