A wifi sprinkler controller could be rigged to do this. I've used https://rachio.com/ for a few years and it has worked well from anywhere on the planet. Source: almost 2 years ago
I would highly recommend getting a Rachio smart sprinkler controller. It will automatically adjust watering based on weather, sprinkler type, grass type, etc. Source: about 2 years ago
There is a rental we are moving into. I noticed in the garage, it appears to have an active internet modem. It also has a Rachio smart sprinkler system, so it might just be set up for that. But it also has a Ring Doorbell camera. Source: over 2 years ago
If you don't already have a 'smart' controller for your system, I can't say enough good things about a Rachio controller. I think mine paid for itself after a year . . . Rachio is another I've heard about but haven't researched much. I know it requires an account but I don't think it's paid. Source: about 3 years ago

It monitors the forecasts and also takes current temp, chance of precip and wind speeds into consideration so I tell it the days to water (M/T/T/F) and how long to water each zone and it will run accordingly, including automatically reducing/extending running times as the weather... Anyone have a recommendation on an alternative to Rachio sprinkler controller? As much as I like Rachio, I am done with the HomeKit issues. Source: about 3 years ago
