  • Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year
Third-party SMS and MMS messaging apps already exist on Android, such as QKSMS,[1] Simple SMS Messenger,[2] and a large number of proprietary apps. There isn't a shred of evidence that these non-default SMS/MMS apps increase spam to any measurable extent compared to SMS/MMS apps that are preinstalled on phones. • Signal is dropping SMS support and both QKSMS and Silence are no longer maintained. Is there a good, open source alternative? Preferably that encrypts your texts locally and allows for backups?

  • Cannot send sms without GMS
I installed this custom kernel ROMยน, disabled google services through Settings > K Settingsยฒ > Disable Google Services, rebooted phoneยณ and then uninstalled every google package via UAD. I use QKSMS [Github | F-Droid] now and everything works fine. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Are there any end-to-end encrypted messaging apps that also support SMS?
I'm thinking of switching to something like QKSMS as my default, because it looks less annoying than the stock one. However, if there are any apps that allow encrypted messages between registered users (like the old Signal) while also supporting SMS to non-registered users, then I think that would be the ideal option. • [Summary] Looking for a FOSS SMS Android app with RCS support r/fdroid
There is an open-source implementation of an RCS stack that these apps (QKSMS and Simple SMS) might be able to use. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Signal is dropping SMS support soon :/ Besides QKSMS, any good SMS apps out there?
I wouldn't say "years", though in 14 days it'll be one year since the last commit on https://github.com/moezbhatti/qksms. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Removing SMS support from Signal Android (soon)
I take about sms app...QKSMS (https://github.com/moezbhatti/qksms) seems dead...But there is an active fork, PartisanSMS (https://github.com/wrwrabbit/Partisan-SMS), cons : it's not on f-droid...Simple SMS (https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-SMS-Messenger/) not a huge fan of Simple apps... But on f-droid.Sad about all of this... It was a pro to migrate some people... Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Decrypt backup for court case
If you chatted using Signal but the other person doesn't have it, then your messages are just regular SMS messages. In that case, any SMS app can read them. I advise QKSMS, it is a great SMS app. Source: about 3 years ago

  • My Mobile having Google Messages as default messaging app. I decided to jump from it . Can anyone suggest the secure message app for default messages.
I personnaly use QKSMS. It can do anything I need. However you should be warned that you won't have RCS chat features (just like any other third party SMS app, not just QKSMS) if you enabled them on Google Messages. Source: over 4 years ago
