It is particularly valuable for owner-operated businesses where purchasing decisions are made by the owner or store manager.
PurchasingLens is built specifically for independent retailers that use Square. Instead of focusing on sales reports or inventory counts, it concentrates on one of the most time-consuming parts of running a store: purchasing.
By connecting directly to Square, PurchasingLens analyses sales history, inventory levels, supplier pricing and purchasing data to recommend what to reorder, when to reorder it, and which supplier offers the best value. It is designed to help owners make faster, more informed purchasing decisions without maintaining complicated spreadsheets.
Unlike generic inventory management systems, PurchasingLens is built from the perspective of a retailer who needed a practical purchasing assistant rather than another reporting dashboard.
PurchasingLens is designed specifically for small and medium-sized retailers using Square.
Many inventory systems focus on tracking stock after it arrives. PurchasingLens focuses on helping you decide what to buy before placing an order. It uses the data already stored in your Square account to provide practical purchasing recommendations, helping reduce manual work, improve stock availability and avoid unnecessary over-ordering.
The software was developed by an independent retailer to solve real purchasing problems experienced every day, so the recommendations are designed to be practical rather than theoretical.
PurchasingLens started as an internal tool for my own retail business.
As the business grew, ordering stock became increasingly difficult. Purchase decisions were spread across spreadsheets, handwritten notes, supplier catalogues and inventory reports. Sales data existed inside Square, but it wasn't being used to answer practical purchasing questions like "What should I order today?" or "Which supplier gives me the best value?"
Rather than continuing to manage purchasing manually, I built a tool that could analyse the information already available in Square and turn it into useful purchasing recommendations.
After seeing how much time it saved and how much more organised purchasing became, PurchasingLens evolved into a product that other Square retailers can use.
