  • Pirating on Mac extremely slow
Hey there, after doing some research it seems like the conclusion is your vpn. Nord VPN has a lack of port forwarding, while other vpns have port forwarding (proton, mullvad). That is most likely interrupting your speed. also, apparently nord does keep some sort of logs if your interested in that. I would recommend cancelling nord and getting something else like proton or mullvad (i would recommend proton more)... Source: over 2 years ago

This is another issue related to Internet Service Providers(ISP) not allowing you to connect to Krnl services. The solution is to just use any Desktop VPN of your choosing, NO browser VPNs. • Where is iOS Split Tunneling?!
You download a WireGuard config from protonvpn.com after you configure it like you want. When you add the config to the WireGuard app on your phone, it should have AllowedIPs set to 0.0.0.0/0 by default. This sends all traffic through the tunnel. You should see an Exclude private IPs toggle directly under the AllowedIPs box if its set to 0.0.0.0/0. Just toggle that switch on for split tunneling. Source: about 3 years ago

I use Proton VPN as my personal VPN and it has never let me down. The paid version is a bit spendy (~$60/year if you sign up for a 2 year term) but there is a free version that should be sufficient for what you want to do. Summary of the public mentions of ProtonVPN

Public Opinion on ProtonVPN: A Comprehensive Summary

ProtonVPN, a well-regarded service in the VPN and privacy sector, has a prominent presence in the industry, offering free and paid options. Sculpted by Swiss privacy-centric ideals and developed by CERN scientists, ProtonVPN is frequently highlighted in tech discussions, especially in relation to its competitors like NordVPN, Windscribe, and Mullvad.

Reputation and Privacy:

ProtonVPN is well-known for its strict privacy policies, embodying a strong no-logs policy and a commitment to user anonymity. This focus on privacy aligns with the ethos of its sister product, ProtonMail. The company's Swiss origins further bolster its credibility, given Switzerland's robust privacy laws. Its open-source initiative is often praised as a step towards transparency, enhancing user trust.

Key Features and Limitations:

The VPN's Secure Core technology is a standout feature, routing traffic through multiple servers to heighten security against network attacks. Additionally, the service leverages high encryption standards, such as AES-256, RSA-4096, and HMAC with SHA384, to ensure secure data transmission. It supports IKEv2/IPSec and OpenVPN protocols, essential for maintaining connection security and speed.

Performance and Accessibility:

ProtonVPN's VPN Accelerator technology is frequently praised for significantly boosting connection speeds, making it a strong competitor, particularly against NordVPN. Users appreciate its extensive server networkโ€”526 servers across 42 countriesโ€”which is well-optimized for consistent performance. Nevertheless, the free version of ProtonVPN is notably limited in server selection and streaming capabilities, particularly for content on geo-restricted platforms like Netflix.

Community Feedback:

User reviews reflect a positive reception, particularly highlighting the VPN's accessibility across multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile OS solutions like Android and iOS. The availability of unlimited data even in the free version is seen as a considerable advantage, though the service does encourage upgrades through periodic prompts to its premium tier.

Use Cases and Recommendations:

ProtonVPN is commonly recommended for securing internet connections on public WiFi, protecting against ISP tracking, and anonymizing browsing activities. Users involved in activities such as torrenting also prefer it due to its favorable policies on P2P networking and its facility for port forwarding, which can enhance download speeds. However, ProtonVPN's streaming and censorship circumvention capabilities are less lauded, with some users expressing the need for more robust options.

Potential Areas for Improvement:

Though ProtonVPN receives accolades for its security and privacy measures, the service's performance on streaming platforms and its limited server choice in the free version are identified as areas for potential enhancement. Users often seek greater usability in these aspects, especially when compared to some competitors who offer better streaming support.

In conclusion, ProtonVPN stands out as a reliable, secure, and privacy-focused VPN service, particularly appealing to users who prioritize data encryption and anonymity over expansive features and performance in media streaming. It remains a trusted choice in the VPN landscape, balancing privacy with usability, even within the limitations of its free offering.

One of the more privacy orientated and affordable VPNs. Swiss based. No shady company ownership (at least seemingly).
