  • 10% of retirees have $1M+ in savings
For those in the US trying to do retirement planning I highly recommend trying: https://projectionlab.com/ I first saw it shared on HN and I've been a happy customer for the past year and the ability to compare the impact of different scenarios has helped me make a few big financial decisions. Good community around it for asking questions too. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • What are your Top 3 most desired features for YNAB?
Tools for future planning - Think ProjectionLabs. Heck a collab with the developer would be fantastic. I know there is currently an extension for it, but having it directly integrated would be more ideal. Source: 5 months ago
  • Mint is shutting down, and it's pushing users toward Credit Karma
If you prefer projection over bank statement tracking, then Projection Lab is nice. https://projectionlab.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • Show HN: Fire UK Calculator and Visualiser
A tool [0] that has a free tier and was quite fun to play around with was posted a little bit ago, projectionlab. [0]: https://projectionlab.com. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Show HN: Paisa – Open-Source Personal Finance Manager
It's interesting how many tools can analyze where your money has been going, but few go deep on the planning + forecasting side. Have you thought about building out the "retirement" module more? If you need any inspiration, I've been working on a personal finance simulator for the past two and a half years as a side project (https://projectionlab.com) Really great job with the docs on this, and I love that you... - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
  • YNAB + ProjectionLab for long term planning
I understand that this is all by design. YNAB is a budget app after all! Not a projection tool! But it's been a breath of fresh air to pair YNAB with a proper projection tool. I found ProjectionLab in the last year and it's been great. I loved it so much I developed a Chrome extension that syncs your YNAB account balances over so you can easily update your projections. • Ask HN: Share one man boring internet businesses
I think http://projectionlab.com/ is a one man show, love this for my finances. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
  • I spent 2 years building a modern FI planning tool πŸ“ˆ β˜•οΈ
But something was missing. I wanted a hands-on and visual way to map out all the FIRE options and explore the trade-offs between different paths. So, I went looking for a long-term planning and forecasting tool. One thing led to another, and I decided to build ProjectionLab. Source: 10 months ago
  • Finding my way to financial independence
My wife and I plan to keep our same spending level in perpetuity, adjusted for inflation. I've been using projectionlab.com (really great site, but kind of pricey at $100/yr) to project when we will achieve financial independence, and it seems like it will be in about 7 years. This is IF I am about to maintain the same level of earning or better over that period of time, which is not guaranteed, but I would say... Source: 10 months ago
  • Want to know if your money will last?
    v. Projectionlab - https://projectionlab.com. Source: 10 months ago
  • My side project hit $10K MRR!
Initially I built https://projectionlab.com simply because I wanted a better plan for my own financial future. And the fact that so many others wanted that too came as a bit of a surprise! But when people signed up and started asking for new features, I put my nose to the grindstone. And kept it there for the past two years. Source: 11 months ago
  • How much did kids delay FIRE for you?
So I can't put a number on how many years it'll add to your retirement target, but these are the main factors. There a few decent forecasting tools like Projectionlab for long-term planning and Nova Money for the daily stuff. Have a go at different scenarios (1 child, 2 children...) and I'm willing to wager it'll be more than 5 years. Source: 11 months ago
  • I make 100k a year put 15% into my 401k, and have about 35k in a savings account. Am I doing enough?
Note – projectionlab.com looks very similar but I have not tried it yet. LINK. Source: 11 months ago

  • I can’t see the value in buying a house at todays prices.
I ran through a bunch of different scenarios over on ProjectionLab. You can play with the numbers, try out different inflation environments and different asset appreciation rates. Then decide which future is more likely to happen. Source: 12 months ago

This website can be helpful: https://projectionlab.com/ you can model what Spain vs NYC will be like. Source: 12 months ago
  • How do you do your math?
I like tools that run simulations against historical data. I use it to see if my plan will survive the worst market situations in history, which is a perfect fit for my risk tolerance. Cfiresim and ProjectionLab are the two I've liked. Source: about 1 year ago
