1. What makes PriceRoo.com.au unique?

   It records Australian prices itself, daily, and keeps the history — so every claim on the site is measured against prices we observed rather than a retailer's strike-through RRP.

   • Cross-retailer, not single-retailer. 4,859 products tracked across 122 Australian retailers, in AUD.
   • The history is the product. Each product page charts what we recorded, with the all-time low and the date it was seen, so "is this actually cheap?" has an evidence-based answer.
   • A low has to earn the label. A price is only flagged as a genuine low when it sits below the range we tracked, which is why a headline "50% off" often does not qualify.

2. Why should a person choose PriceRoo.com.au over its competitors?

   Because the competitors are mostly Amazon trackers, and Australians do not buy mostly from Amazon.

   CamelCamelCamel and Keepa track Amazon listings. PriceRoo tracks the retailers Australians actually shop at — JB Hi-Fi, Ted's Cameras, eBay AU, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Scorptec, Umart, Mwave, PC Case Gear, PLE Computers and 100+ more — and puts their prices for the same product side by side, in AUD.

   It is also free with no account and no browser extension: every product page is a plain public page you can open, read and link to.

3. How would you describe the primary audience of PriceRoo.com.au?

   Australian consumers doing the check before a purchase — mostly on electronics, computer hardware, cameras, audio and home appliances, which is where our retailer coverage is deepest.

   Two situations dominate:

   • "Is this discount real?" Someone is looking at a sale price and wants to know what the item normally costs before committing.
   • "Who has it cheapest right now?" Someone knows the product and wants the current AU offers in one place.

   It is also used around the AU sale calendar — Black Friday, Boxing Day, Click Frenzy, Afterpay Day, Prime Day — when the gap between an advertised discount and a real one is widest.

4. What's the story behind PriceRoo.com.au?

   It started in mid-2026 out of a specific annoyance: Australia has plenty of sale coverage and almost no independent record of what things actually cost here over time. The Amazon-only trackers do not cover the local retailers, and a "was $X, now $Y" claim is only as good as the $X.

   So the site was built the other way round — record prices first, publish conclusions second. It checks Australian retailers every day, stores what it sees, and only then decides whether something is a genuine low. That ordering is why a lot of advertised discounts do not get flagged here.

5. Which are the primary technologies used for building PriceRoo.com.au?

   • Astro — the whole site is statically generated, so every product page is plain HTML with the prices and dates in the markup rather than loaded by script.
   • Python — the collection pipeline: retailer feeds and pages in, normalised observations out.
   • SQLite — the price history store the pages are generated from.
   • Cloudflare Pages + R2 — hosting and image storage.

   No tracking-heavy front end and no client-side rendering of the price data; it is a static, linkable page by design.
