You would preferably download the dmg from Apples website here and open it on the ThinkPad and download PowerISO here and follow there official instructions on how to do it. Then hold down alt/option key on the Mac and insert the DVD and boot off of it. Source: almost 4 years ago
Possibly, this is a GPU failure which is not repairable, except for a logic board swap, but you can try and reinstall OSx which would require an install dvd or burn OSX to a DVD from Apple and use software like powerISO and burn a DVD (iirc, these old Macs donโt have USB booting) and format Macintosh HD (or whatever the main hdd is called) and X out of disk utility and reinstall OSX. PowerISO has garnered a mixed yet largely positive reception in the realm of disk image handling and bootable USB creation tools, particularly when considered as an alternative to tools like Rufus. As evident from the data and product mentions, PowerISO is well-regarded for its versatility and comprehensive array of features, transcending mere CD and DVD image creation to allow for tasks like mounting disks and converting various image formats to ISO.
Strengths and Capabilities
PowerISO's core strength lies in its ability to efficiently handle a wide variety of image-related tasks on the Windows operating system. Users commend it for its fast and reliable performance, especially useful for creating bootable USB drives โ a feature that allows users to install operating systems or recover existing ones effectively. Its capability to burn and rip audio CDs to formats like MP3 further accentuates its practical utility for both technical and everyday uses. Moreover, PowerISO's functionality extends to the creation, editing, and mounting of disk images, providing a comprehensive toolkit that goes beyond merely creating bootable USB drives. This versatility is a selling point for users seeking a multipurpose tool, rather than resorting to a suite of different applications for each individual task.
Limitations
Despite its robustness, PowerISO does have limitations that may deter some users. It is predominantly a Windows-exclusive application, which poses a significant constraint for users on Linux or macOS platforms. The lack of a straightforward interface for creating bootable USBs can also be a stumbling block, as some users have reported difficulty due to the absence of direct, user-friendly options in this specific feature. Additionally, while its broad feature set is beneficial for power users, beginners might find the multitude of functions overwhelming without sufficient onboarding or guidance.
Competitive Landscape
Comparatively, PowerISO stands against alternatives like UltraISO, DAEMON Tools, and open-source tools like WinCDEmu and ImgBurn. While some competitors offer simpler interfaces or cross-platform compatibility, PowerISO gains an edge with its fast processing speed and comprehensive feature set. As a Rufus alternative, particularly for Windows users, its utility in creating bootable drives is noteworthyโdespite Rufus being more specifically tailored for USB bootable drives and widely adopted due to its streamlined focus and ease of use.
User Experience
Users have highlighted the efficiency of PowerISO in technical forums and articles, appreciating its capability to complete tasks promptly without excessive configuration. Its mention in numerous guides as a tool for burning DVDs to restore macOS highlights its utility in diverse scenarios, from mundane backup tasks to more critical recovery operations.
Conclusion
In summary, PowerISO remains a versatile and reliable tool within its domain, particularly valuable for users operating within the Windows environment seeking a comprehensive solution to manage disk images and create bootable media. Potential users should weigh its powerful features against the limitations of its platform exclusivity and somewhat complex interface when considering it as a solution.
