It’s been working for a few years now and (luckily) I never had major incidents. I checked out one of their servers "Cowfee.club" andrealized there were a lot of antisemitic posts.   I've been running (Pleroma)[https://pleroma.social/] for (microblogging)[https://micro.mkp.ca/] for a couple years, and Peertube for (video sharing)[https://vid.mkp.ca]. When I get time I'll be replacing Pleroma with something else. One of the (many) nice features about the Fediverse over proprietary microblogging is that you can migrate accounts between hosts, and all of your followers come with you. Source: almost 3 years ago

  For Mastodon usually it doesn't fetch older posts from before I followed you (the term is called "backfeeding" I think). But ActivityPub allows that via the /outbox feature. I think some other server software like Pleroma support backfeeding. Source: almost 3 years ago

  Mastodon and Pleroma are very similar to Twitter. Both are based on the activitypub protocol, so if one group sets up a pleroma instance and another sets up a Mastodon server, they can still communicate together.
