Maybe one of my favorite examples https://plaintextsports.com/ Lots of examples here (although many do have some amount of styling): https://sjmulder.nl/en/textonly.html. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
Love it! Slightly off topic but Iโd love to see a list of mainly text sites. My two favourites are https://plaintextsports.com/ and https://lite.cnn.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
I initially built https://plaintextsports.com because I was annoyed with how slowly other sports websites loaded, but since then I have come to appreciate it more for the density of the information, and how few clicks it takes to get to the info you care about (usually at most two or three). - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago

Someone on here I think runs Plain Text Sports. I rarely follow games, but I like the idea of such a simple site. https://plaintextsports.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago

It isn't FOSS, but plaintextsports.com is extremely minimal and reliable. Source: over 2 years ago
For sports, ESPN does have http://www.espn.com/nba/lite/scoreboard, but most of the links go back to the normal website. It may have been been more robust in the past, but I don't imagine anyone works on it anymore. It seems like the developer listed in the credits (http://www.espn.com/espn/lite/credits) last worked there in 2002!! So if you're looking for a sports alternative, https://plaintextsports.com (which I... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
A personal gripe with progressive web apps: they cache the website!! A lot of people have requested that I make a progressive web app for https://plaintextsports.com. I've looked into it, but it fundamentally doesn't work, because it caches the home page. My website doesn't load any data via JavaScript; it just relies on the HTML page updating every 30 seconds, so when the home page is cached, the website just... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
For box scores nothing beats https://plaintextsports.com/. Source: over 2 years ago
I run Plain Text Sports (https://plaintextsports.com/). I got sick of waiting for ESPN to load so I made a site with the goal of providing immediate access to what people actually care about: sports scores. It's pretty fully featured at this point, supporting the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, Premier League and Champions League, college basketball and college football, WNBA, NWSL, and the World Cup. And for a lot of... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
Over here in the States, I've been using https://plaintextsports.com/ to follow NBA live scores. Source: over 2 years ago
It has a great World Cup presentation which can display by [group or by date](https://plaintextsports.com/world-cup/2022/schedule). The page sizes are something like 3 magnitudes smaller than ESPN.com, especially great for when you're actually at the game and the network is bogged down in the arena. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
It's amazing how snappy computers from the mid-90s actually are. https://plaintextsports.com/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
This might not meet your needs but for simplicity I don't think https://plaintextsports.com/ can be beaten. Source: almost 3 years ago

If anyone was also as annoyed as me, I now use https://plaintextsports.com/ . On mobile it's awesome because you can create a home screen shortcut on iphone or android so it looks like an app and it loads 1000x faster than espn because its all plain text. Highly recommend. This is not something I built so hopefully this doesnt get classified as self promotion, just trying to help others not have a shitty score... Source: over 3 years ago
Author here! When I originally submitted it, it didn't get a lot of traction (it got on the front-page via the second chance pool a couple days later), and I definitely regretted not including "written in Rust" in the title. I'm acutely aware of HN's love of Rust, and the subsequent grumbling about always bringing it up that something is written in Rust, so I left it out with the false illusion that not mentioning... - Source: Hacker News / over 3 years ago
