    Every calculator ships with a worked example, and that worked example is simultaneously a test fixture in the release gate. The numbers published on the page are the exact numbers CI checks on every commit โ€” if the app and the published example ever disagreed, the build fails and nothing deploys.

    That closes a gap common in this space: tools that return a number without showing the method, and reference pages that explain a method without providing a tool. Piping Toolset puts the governing equation, its code paragraph citation, the stated limitations, a hand-checkable worked example, and the live calculator on a single page.

    Calculations run entirely in the browser. Inputs are never transmitted, which matters when the numbers belong to a client project.

  3. What's the story behind Piping Toolset?

    I am a licensed piping engineer, and I kept rebuilding the same calculations โ€” wall thickness, branch reinforcement, expansion loops โ€” in spreadsheets that were never quite trustworthy and never quite portable. The tools I could find online gave a number with no visible method, or explained the method without giving me anything to compute with. Neither is useful when you have to defend the result.

    So I wrote the calculators I wanted, then made a rule: I would not publish a calculator I could not prove. Every worked example on the site is a locked test case with a tolerance, re-run on every commit. A red fixture blocks the release. That constraint drove the whole design โ€” the calculations are pure functions with no hidden state, which is what makes them verifiable in the first place.

    The free tier is deliberately generous because the calculations themselves should not be behind a paywall.

  5. Which are the primary technologies used for building Piping Toolset?

    TypeScript throughout, in an npm-workspace monorepo. The calculation engine is a standalone pure-function package with fixture-based verification under Vitest; the UI is React and Vite. Static landing pages are generated at build time by a dependency-free Node script that reads the same fixtures the tests use, so published examples cannot drift from verified behaviour.

    Hosting and serverless functions on Netlify. Supabase for magic-link auth and entitlement lookups, Stripe hosted checkout for subscriptions. Playwright for end-to-end tests gating deployment.

    The nozzle/shell FEA service is Python and FastAPI, running the open-source CalculiX solver.
