Free browser-based calculators for piping engineers, covering ASME B31.3 process piping (wall thickness, allowable pressure, leak test, branch reinforcement, miter bends, displacement stress range), B31.1 power piping, ASME BPE hygienic design (dead-leg L/d, slope and drainability, spray device flow, CIP velocity), expansion loop sizing, thermal growth, pipeline integrity (B31G, MAOP, hydrotest), water hammer surge, and more - 40 calculators in all. Every calculator documents its governing equation with code paragraph citations, states its limitations explicitly, and publishes a worked example that is simultaneously a CI-gated test fixture: if the app and the published example ever disagreed, the build would fail. Calculations run entirely in the browser; inputs are never transmitted.
Paid tiers add deliverable-focused tools:
Pro ($2.99/mo): Report Manager calculation-package builder, PiperSIF stress intensification factors (ASME B31J + HDPE), PiperPSV relief valve sizing (API 520 orifice sizing + B31.1 App II reaction forces), pipe-size and material-property autofill from licensed code tables.
Pro Plus ($7.99/mo): PiperHGR spring-hanger selection with 3D assemblies, PiperNOZ equipment nozzle load checks (API 610/560/660/661, NEMA SM 23), PiperFLG ASME Section VIII Appendix 2 flange design with B16.5-2025 pressure-temperature ratings.
Ultimate ($14.99/mo): PiperISO isometric drawing, PiperSTR AISC 360-22 pipe support structural design, PiperFEA screening-grade nozzle-to-shell FEA.
Pricing: Freemium. Pro $2.99/mo ($29/yr) - Pro Plus $7.99/mo ($79/yr) - Ultimate $14.99/mo ($149/yr). Free calculators forever, no login.

Every calculator ships with a worked example, and that worked example is simultaneously a test fixture in the release gate. The numbers published on the page are the exact numbers CI checks on every commit โ if the app and the published example ever disagreed, the build fails and nothing deploys.
That closes a gap common in this space: tools that return a number without showing the method, and reference pages that explain a method without providing a tool. Piping Toolset puts the governing equation, its code paragraph citation, the stated limitations, a hand-checkable worked example, and the live calculator on a single page.
Calculations run entirely in the browser. Inputs are never transmitted, which matters when the numbers belong to a client project.
Practicing piping and stress engineers in process, power and EPC work โ the people doing ASME B31.3 and B31.1 pressure design, branch reinforcement, SIFs and displacement stress range checks.
A second, distinct audience on the ASME BPE side: process, validation and GMP engineers in pharmaceutical and biotech facilities, working dead-leg L/d, slope and drainability, spray-device coverage and CIP velocity.
Also pipeline integrity engineers using B31G remaining-strength assessment, and instructors in piping-design programs who need worked examples with the method shown.
I am a licensed piping engineer, and I kept rebuilding the same calculations โ wall thickness, branch reinforcement, expansion loops โ in spreadsheets that were never quite trustworthy and never quite portable. The tools I could find online gave a number with no visible method, or explained the method without giving me anything to compute with. Neither is useful when you have to defend the result.
So I wrote the calculators I wanted, then made a rule: I would not publish a calculator I could not prove. Every worked example on the site is a locked test case with a tolerance, re-run on every commit. A red fixture blocks the release. That constraint drove the whole design โ the calculations are pure functions with no hidden state, which is what makes them verifiable in the first place.
The free tier is deliberately generous because the calculations themselves should not be behind a paywall.
Auditability. An engineer stamping a drawing has to defend the number, so every calculator states its governing equation with the ASME paragraph cited, declares explicitly what it does not cover, and shows a worked example you can reproduce by hand.
Three things back that up publicly: a fixture-coverage table generated from the live test suite at every build, so it cannot go stale; a versioned calculation changelog recording every change to calculation behaviour; and a source-and-citation policy stating where each value comes from. Code paragraph numbers are cited โ ASME table values are never embedded, and remain user-supplied inputs.
It is built and maintained by a licensed professional engineer who uses these calculations in practice.
TypeScript throughout, in an npm-workspace monorepo. The calculation engine is a standalone pure-function package with fixture-based verification under Vitest; the UI is React and Vite. Static landing pages are generated at build time by a dependency-free Node script that reads the same fixtures the tests use, so published examples cannot drift from verified behaviour.
Hosting and serverless functions on Netlify. Supabase for magic-link auth and entitlement lookups, Stripe hosted checkout for subscriptions. Playwright for end-to-end tests gating deployment.
The nozzle/shell FEA service is Python and FastAPI, running the open-source CalculiX solver.
We have collected here some useful links to help you find out if Piping Toolset is good.
Check the traffic stats of Piping Toolset on SimilarWeb. The key metrics to look for are: monthly visits, average visit duration, pages per visit, and traffic by country. Moreoever, check the traffic sources. For example "Direct" traffic is a good sign.
Check the "Domain Rating" of Piping Toolset on Ahrefs. The domain rating is a measure of the strength of a website's backlink profile on a scale from 0 to 100. It shows the strength of Piping Toolset's backlink profile compared to the other websites. In most cases a domain rating of 60+ is considered good and 70+ is considered very good.
Check the "Domain Authority" of Piping Toolset on MOZ. A website's domain authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). It is based on a 100-point logarithmic scale, with higher scores corresponding to a greater likelihood of ranking. This is another useful metric to check if a website is good.
