I can't fucking take it. chainsaws. Leaf blowers. Snow blowers. Lawn mowers. And it's all day, all year round. One day you guys are going to get a patch.com notification about "stamford man stabs 7 people off high ridge road, claims 'couldn't stand the fucking buzzing buzzing buzzing buzzing buzzing anymore'". There should be designated hours where you can and can't use heavy industrial machinery on grass and... Source: about 1 year ago

They have a valid point in that we want to be able to verify these things actually happened, and we can assume an established newspaper or media outlet has verified their sources. With patch.com that's harder, but most of the stories the author links to have sources like Reuters. A few, like this one, don't and would likely require publishing things that would be dangerous. Considering the track record of this... Source: over 1 year ago
One bit of context that people might not realize: patch.com is a sort of microblogging site for independent journalists, not an actual news site. There's some good work there, there's some not-so-good work there. You have to look at each article/author and draw your own conclusions. In this case, the author is advertising their rumble stream at the end of the article, for whatever that's worth. Source: over 1 year ago
I've been hearing so many opinions on this. I've searched websites like patch.com and even on the CDC's website, that say legally, teens aren't kids (at least in the US). But there's people who say that's disgusting. So... What am I supposed to believe? Source: over 1 year ago

I'm sorry that happened to you, seriously. One thing that you might want to consider doing is sending a letter to the editor of the local paper for that town. It may be Patch (https://patch.com/). And copy the Board of Selectpeople/Selectmen and the Chief of the local police department on it. The Town should write a letter to the paper saying how much they abhor this behavior and notify their police to be vigilant... Source: almost 2 years ago
Noticed some guy keeps posting on patch.com about being harassed by a man on a motorcycle in the park and the cops 'blaming democrats' for their inaction.. Sigh. I go to the park a few times a week and haven't really seen any new sketchiness. So is this dude trolling or is there more crime in the park that doesn't make it to Citizen app? It's not weird that I'm defending someone I've met a couple of times (met his wife and first kid) who rowed with people I know against an internet crowd that doesn't understand how to think past their reflexive anger and emotions. He should absolutely be removed from rowing. But the exact nature of what he did has not been revealed, and neither has the evidence. And according to the patch.com article, he wasn't... Posting on Reddit may make you both feel a bit better, but you should try to get that story out there on public media that will be seen by more members of the public. Many people would be horrified to find out that Animal Control can and will do this. I am not sure what area of Fairfax County you live in, but you may want to spread this further via social media such as Facebook and Nextdoor, local animal rights... Source: almost 2 years ago

In some parts of the US you can get some local events on patch [1] but coverage is very limited in some states, especially in the midwest. I don't know of any sites that have full unredacted news and as far as I can tell most investigative journalists are either gone or have their own little websites that are excluded from search engines. As far as I know all the corporate news sites are owned by the same... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
