> Google maps and Waze does not allow for setting vehicle height As a side note, OsmAnd supports setting vehicle height* and has support for multiple vehicles/routing profiles: https://osmand.net *: and weight, width, and length. - Source: Hacker News / 23 days ago
How does it compare to OsmAnd? https://osmand.net. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
OsmAnd works for me. I am looking to get off Google, so I try to retire anything that is not on F-Droid. OsmAnd is a independent project ( osmand.net ) that uses the data you can also access under www.openstreetmap.org . The App is not perfect and sometimes it calls for the wrong action, for example when a road is just taking a steep turn it might ask for you to turn onto a different road which is actually the... When I am on a flight and the flight does not provide the flight information, I am using the OsmAnd, https://osmand.net/, to monitor the flight altitude, speed and direction. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
Regarding usage of OpenStreetMap over Google Maps - assuming we're talking mobile usage - you might give OSMAnd[0] a try. I've been using it exclusively on a Pixel loaded with GrapheneOS for a few months now. I would never consider going back to GMaps and I don't feel that I've lost anything either. OpenStreetMap tends to be good for hiking trails. I like https://osmand.net but there may be other apps that are good too. Source: 10 months ago
OsmAnd, with your country/state map downloaded for offline use. Source: 10 months ago
Yes, I personally download everything to Open Streetmap for Android: https://osmand.net/. Source: 11 months ago
In any case there are several alternative navigation apps for motorbikes and bicycles out there. Just as one suggestion: OsmAnd. If supports routing profiles for multiple modes of transports with a lot of settings and the possibilty to customize them, which, as far as I understand, can include forbidding (or at deprioritizing) primary roads: https://osmand.net/docs/technical/build-osmand/routing/. Welcome to my garden is handy, although mainly focused on Belgium. Refill your bottle is a handy starting point to get drinking water while on the road. And I always have offline maps in OsmAnd for routes, campsites, supermarkets etcetera. Source: 11 months ago
Umap (web based - partly does what you want). Osmand Mobile app. Source: 12 months ago
If it's just for route planning, OSMAnd works pretty well, too. Source: 12 months ago
So I've been using the OsmAnd+ app for a while, and now have signed up for Pro. What I'm trying to do is figure out how to use the osmand.net/map page to plan trips and then be able to see all of the tracks and routes on my mobile device. Unfortunately, the osmand.net site is not very user friendly (and obviously still a beta), and I've run into questions. Rather than list them all, I was wondering if anyone knows... Import that route into https://osmand.net/ on your phone, available for ios and android. The app uses maps from the Open Street Map project. It also has an offline mode. Source: 12 months ago
OSMAnd+ - less intuitive but more feature rich. Source: about 1 year ago
I can only recommend OsmAnd (you can also get it on F-Droid), it even allows you to plan your route by road type, inclination, etc. - genuinely saved my ass in less than ideal infrastructure conditions. Source: about 1 year ago
The OsmAnd app is a good app to use to access it. Source: about 1 year ago
OsmAnd is the mobile app I use and given OSM in Manhattan is so much better I don't even have Google Maps on my phone anymore. Https://osmand.net/. Source: over 1 year ago
There is OsmAnd, and then there are a bunch of other apps that are...built with OsmAnd. Others not built with OsmAnd are all pretty much either straight up owned by Google, or not any better for privacy. Source: over 1 year ago
OsmAnd & OrganicMaps, just remember to download the maps you need before leaving/while you have internet. Source: over 1 year ago
If you use an app that uses OpenStreetMap data, like OsmAnd you can configure it to avoid stairs. Try to route somewhere and then press the gear icon, then open navigation settings -> route parameters -> avoid roads -> no steps. See https://osmand.net/docs/user/personal/profiles/.
