This is not opera.com it's "api2 dot com" so it's a malware site posing as an opera one by including opera in its name. I had a popup like this. It opened every time I opened the browser. Turned out it was coming from a video downloader extension. Source: about 2 years ago
The opera.com domain is banned where I live but I still want to download the browser without a VPN (because those are also banned). Is there a torrent link or an alternative/mirror link where I can download the latest Opera One release? Thanks! Source: over 2 years ago
Apparently it "urgently needed to be removed off the network" (bullshit, you could've blocked opera.com, dumbass) I don't see why its so bad to have one kid with an unmanaged browser, like seeing "your browser is managed by your organisation" sucks enough. They disabled basically everything good about Chrome, for a time, they locked down the performance tab so we couldn't even use battery saver. Source: over 2 years ago
One day, I got called to my Deputy Principal's (Dep. For short) office because my laptop was doing wacky shit to the network. He informs me that my laptop had sent 64k pings to opera.com. It was about the 2nd term, we receive new laptops every couple of years. He first told me about my searches for a VPN, which I guess is on me. But when he brings up the 64k pings, he tells me whatever the app is doing it has to... Source: over 2 years ago

I tried to reinstall, but the website seems to be down. All attempts to get to opera.com yield a "403 Forbidden" error. Using the installer.exe file in the program folder did not work. Source: almost 3 years ago
What's more is that if you visit opera.com you will find a lot of documents - I repeat: this is a publicly traded company - that will make you perfectly clear who Opera is. Source: about 3 years ago
Most pages with 'opera.com' are coming back with 403 Forbidden. The download page curiously isn't - but actually trying to download causes the same 403 Forbidden hard stop. Source: about 3 years ago
Opera GX is overloaded with features, which take more RAM. Use the regular Opera for more lightweight experience. Or Otter Browser for even less RAM. Source: over 3 years ago

Opera, a longstanding player in the web browser sphere, distinguishes itself as a browser tailored for users who prioritize privacy and customization. Despite holding a modest 2.4% of the web browser market share, Opera is noted for its rich feature set and Chromium-based architecture, which allow seamless Google Chrome extension integration. This makes the transition for users shifting from Chrome notably smooth.
Opera boasts an array of in-built features that reduce reliance on third-party extensions. Notably, it includes an ad blocker and a VPN service, enhancing user privacy and security without additional installations. Its distinctive interface combines a handy sidebar with mouse gestures, catering to both power users and those seeking a streamlined browsing experience. Features like the built-in โStashโ eliminate the need for external services like Pocket or Evernote, encouraging users to remain within the Opera ecosystem for convenience.
Further distinguishing Opera is its Opera Turbo Mode, a feature designed to compress data, speeding up load times and reducing data usageโideal for users with limited internet bandwidth. Additionally, the browser's battery saver mode promises up to 50% extended battery life, appealing to users focused on optimizing their laptop's power efficiency.
The privacy-conscious features of Opera, such as its incognito mode, fraud and malware warnings, and the inclusion of an unlimited built-in VPN, cater to users wary of online threats and eager for more control over their digital footprint. Its powerful ad-blocking capabilities are another differentiator in the cluttered browser market, making it an attractive option for those frustrated by invasive online ads. Despite its strengths, some criticisms arise from minor security concerns reported by users, though these instances often relate to external factors or user configurations rather than systemic issues within Opera itself.
Although Opera is competitively placed against browsers like Brave, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge, its appeal lies in its comprehensive suite of features available straight out of the box, reducing the necessity for additional tweaks or downloads. Users seeking a robust, security-focused browsing solution without sacrificing performance or customization frequently regard Opera as a viable alternative to mainstream options. Nevertheless, some criticisms linger regarding its comparability to Chrome; while offering many parallel features, Opera lacks distinctive elements sufficient to compel a significant user migration away from Chrome's familiar environment.
User posts and forums reveal sporadic technical issues, notably connectivity problems with Opera's own sites and concerns around the distribution and downloading aspects, particularly in regions where opera.com is inaccessible. Occasionally, users express troubles with memory usageโreporting higher RAM consumption with Opera GX, its gaming-centric version, compared to lighter browsersโindicating potential areas for optimization.
In conclusion, Opera provides a well-rounded browsing experience defined by its privacy-forward design and rich feature set. While market penetration remains limited, its loyal user base benefits from a browser that balances speed, security, and user-friendliness. For users prioritizing a secure and customizable browsing environment, Opera stands as a noteworthy contender, albeit with room for improvement in overcoming perceptions about its differentiation from Chrome.
