Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about OpenSky Network and what they use it for.
  • Understanding The API
What about opensky-network.org? Their API is free if you are a feeder. I use Node-RED to get the exact information you mention. Not sure what programming language you are going to use, but if I can get it working in Node-RED as a non-programmer, you should have it up and running in just a few minutes. Source: over 4 years ago
  • What is the Best Mapped Site to See Plane Routes for a Given Day/Week?
You may try https://opensky-network.org/, they have a good historical data for aircrafts. Might be something you can find for the airports as well. Source: over 4 years ago
  • Do personal MLOps projects exist?
I haven't thought much about this actually. I wouldn't know how to do something interesting with monitoring/streaming/retraining because as you say, it looks like you would need a proper production setting; that said, there are some interesting open source streaming data sources out there, I recently saw some open live data for flights around the world for example (I think it's this one). • My girlfriend was flying from DIA to Nashville yesterday. This is what happened.
Flightradar24 filters out a lot of data. ie: military flights. You should look into using opensky-network.org. Source: almost 5 years ago

Summary of Public Opinion on OpenSky Network

OpenSky Network, a collaborative platform for collecting and sharing air traffic data, has garnered attention for its versatile applications and accessibility. Public opinion, shaped by user experiences, articles, and discussion posts, highlights several key aspects of OpenSky Network, particularly when compared to its competitors such as FlightRadar24, FlightAware, and ADSBExchange.

Versatility and Application Scope

OpenSky Network is praised for its utility across various sectors. In the context of urban planning, it provides valuable insights into flight paths and their potential impacts on urban environments, facilitating informed decision-making and development strategies. In the aviation sector, it enhances safety by allowing for the analysis of near-miss incidents, which can inform preventive measures and policies. Furthermore, insurance companies find the real-time data from OpenSky invaluable for verifying flight claims, adding a layer of efficiency and accuracy to their operations.

The platform's API is particularly noted for its openness and ease of use. It offers free access to data if users contribute by feeding their own data into the system, fostering a community-driven exchange of information. This democratization of data access is appreciated by hobbyists and developers alike, allowing for the creation of new applications in logistics and tourism. A post from a non-programmer using Node-RED highlighted the API's user-friendly nature, emphasizing its accessibility even to those with limited technical expertise.

Data Richness and Historical Insights

OpenSky Network is recognized for its extensive historical data, which proves invaluable for researchers and enthusiasts seeking insights into past air traffic patterns. This feature is frequently mentioned as a significant advantage over some competitors like Flightradar24, which is noted for filtering out certain types of data, such as military flights. Users appreciate the comprehensive and unfiltered data provided by OpenSky, which can be used for various analytical projects, including personal MLOps projects where real-time streaming data is crucial.

Community and Open Source Support

The network's support for open-source efforts is another frequently lauded aspect. The platform offers live flight data that can be utilized in innovative projects without the constraints of a commercial setting. This flexibility encourages experimentation and learning, positioning OpenSky as a valuable resource for both individuals and organizations interested in air traffic data manipulation.

Comparisons and Reputation

When comparing OpenSky Network to competitors such as FlightRadar24 and Plane Finder, a recurring theme is its emphasis on community contribution and open access.
