My own experience from more or less freelancing: If you create an account on a preconfigured server without setting it up on a machine of your own, e.g. On odoo.com / odoo.sh, or cloudpepper.io/ and don't need very specific configurations done, plus are willing to try out and learn a lot (we're speaking about days, not hours, depending on what you need even more than a week) you can do it on your own. Essentially a good part of the developer community refused to accept 3.x. Oddly enough, 2.x had continued development and updates with code that was essentially already depreciated even before the 2.7 version was released in July 2010. One example is the open source ERP odoo.com (used to be OpenERP) which did not migrate their software to Python 3.x until late 2017. Source: over 4 years ago

Odoo, a comprehensive suite of open-source business applications, has gained significant traction in the ERP, CRM, and business management sectors. As a versatile platform, it caters to a wide range of business needs, including accounting, sales, and learning management systems (LMS). With its broad functionality, competitive pricing, and user-friendly interfaces, Odoo draws comparisons to platforms like ERPNext, SAP ERP, Oracle NetSuite, Sage Intacct, and others.
Open-source Flexibility: One of Odooโs most praised aspects is its open-source nature, allowing unparalleled customization and integration capabilities. Users often highlight the ability to tailor the system to precise needs as a significant advantage, particularly for businesses with unique workflows.
Modular Architecture: Odooโs offering spans over a thousand applications, including ERP, CRM, eCommerce, and inventory management. Its modular structure lets businesses select and pay for only the functionality they need, starting with free access for a single app or bundle.
User-centric Design: Many reviewers commend Odooโs user-centric design approach. The platformโs intuitive interface simplifies complex business processes, making it accessible to employees without extensive technical know-how. This design ethos positions Odoo as an attractive option in reviews comparing ERP systems.
Comprehensive LMS Features: Recent product releases include enriched LMS capabilities, positioning Odoo as a potent alternative to Moodle. Users value the LMS for enabling educators to create, promote, and deliver courses efficiently, thus adding significant value to the education sector.
Despite the hefty competition from established entities like SAP and Microsoft Dynamics, Odoo maintains a strong market presence. The platform is recognized for its wide network of partners and extensive user base, with over 7 million users globally. However, its suitability is often debated regarding cost. While cost-effective for single-app usage, integrating multiple modules and accommodating numerous users can escalate expenses, making alternatives like ERPNext and Intuit QuickBooks appealing for some market segments.
Implementing Odoo can demand significant expertise and effort, a factor recognized by users and reinforced in community discussions. The need for a dedicated development team to fully utilize Odooโs capabilities is a common theme. Additionally, while the open-source version provides extensive features, version upgrades often require support packages from Odoo, incurring additional costs.
Odooโs blend of flexibility, expansive functionalities, and user-friendly design presents a compelling choice for businesses looking to streamline operations across various domains. As an open-source leader in the ERP landscape, it offers distinctive value, especially for organizations with unique requirements and those capable of leveraging its extensive customization options. However, potential users should carefully assess implementation costs and support needs to ensure an optimized deployment that aligns with their business objectives.
