Nowlert CE is the free, open-source and self-hosted edition of Nowlert. It receives infrastructure signals through SMTP, authenticated HTTP/webhooks and Redfish Event Service, normalises vendor-specific events into a shared event model, applies deterministic routing rules, and delivers clear operational notifications to Discord, Microsoft Teams, Slack, generic webhooks, MQTT and ntfy.
It is designed to sit between infrastructure products and collaboration or notification tools rather than replace monitoring, virtualization, storage, networking or hardware-management systems.
Built-in integrations include Xen Orchestra, Zabbix, Grafana, Portainer, Proxmox, QNAP, Synology, TrueNAS, UniFi, Supermicro, HPE iLO, Dell iDRAC and Home Assistant.
The bundled WebUI provides dashboard analytics, routing flow, destinations, routes, Event API tokens, delivery history, audit logs, users, backup and data tools, and integration settings.
Nowlert CE runs with Docker, stores local platform state in SQLite, and is MIT licensed.

Nowlert CE focuses on the layer between infrastructure systems and notification destinations. Instead of simply forwarding a message, it receives SMTP, HTTP and Redfish events, identifies and normalises vendor-specific payloads, applies deterministic routing, and renders destination-aware notifications. This allows different infrastructure products to use one consistent notification pipeline without replacing the monitoring or management systems that already generate the events.
Nowlert CE is a good fit when the requirement is more than simply pushing a message to a device or channel. It combines infrastructure-aware parsing, event normalisation, deterministic routing and destination-specific presentation in one self-hosted application. For users who only need simple push notifications, tools such as ntfy or Gotify may be simpler. Nowlert is intended for environments where multiple infrastructure systems need a shared operational notification layer.
Nowlert CE is aimed at homelab operators, system administrators, infrastructure and platform engineers, small IT teams and other operators managing mixed infrastructure. It is especially useful where several systems already generate useful alerts but those alerts arrive through inconsistent emails, webhooks or hardware-event formats.
Nowlert started from a very specific homelab problem: Xen Orchestra backup emails contained useful information but were long and difficult to scan quickly. The original goal was to parse those messages and turn them into concise Discord notifications.
After experimenting with existing notification tools, more control was needed over parsing, normalisation and presentation. Custom formatters were built, additional infrastructure integrations were added, and eventually most of the environment could communicate through the same notification layer.
That internal tool evolved into Nowlert CE and was released as an open-source project so other operators could use and extend the same model.
Nowlert CE is primarily built with Python 3.13 and SQLite. It is packaged and deployed with Docker/Docker Compose. The WebUI uses HTML, CSS and JavaScript and is served directly by the application. Runtime components include aiosmtpd for SMTP ingestion, Requests and BeautifulSoup/lxml for HTTP and payload processing, and paho-mqtt for MQTT delivery.
Nowlert CE is a newly launched open-source, self-hosted project, and we do not currently publish a customer list. Deployments are independently operated by their users, and the current focus is building community adoption and the integration ecosystem.
We have collected here some useful links to help you find out if Nowlert CE is good.
Check the traffic stats of Nowlert CE on SimilarWeb. The key metrics to look for are: monthly visits, average visit duration, pages per visit, and traffic by country. Moreoever, check the traffic sources. For example "Direct" traffic is a good sign.
Check the "Domain Rating" of Nowlert CE on Ahrefs. The domain rating is a measure of the strength of a website's backlink profile on a scale from 0 to 100. It shows the strength of Nowlert CE's backlink profile compared to the other websites. In most cases a domain rating of 60+ is considered good and 70+ is considered very good.
Check the "Domain Authority" of Nowlert CE on MOZ. A website's domain authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). It is based on a 100-point logarithmic scale, with higher scores corresponding to a greater likelihood of ranking. This is another useful metric to check if a website is good.
