  • Directory navigation on Helix
If you want a file full browser experience choose nnn: https://github.com/jarun/nnn . If you have a desktop file for Helix you can use the Gnome Files program to make all your programming language files open in Helix. Source: 5 months ago
  • Antonmedv/walk: Terminal file manager
Nnn [1] seems like a more advanced tool (directory management, copying, renaming, packing/unpacking) and pluggable. [1] https://github.com/jarun/nnn. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
  • Terminal file manager nnn v4.8 released
In case you haven't come across nnn earlier, it is a tiny full-featured terminal file manager written for performance and productivity - https://github.com/jarun/nnn. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Best way to create a new file from within helix?
Another option is to create a file in the command line, but quitting from the editor can be a bit of a hassle. So, what we can do is split the screen with tmux or zellij. Use a file manager if you prefer visual. Personally use nnn. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I wrote a super minimal, fast file manager in BASH v5+. Looking for testers/contributors
I used your program for a little bit and it is a very nice effort. Although I would like to ask you, why not use nnn as a file manager which is insanely fast and has several functionalities as well. I am hoping you are aware of the project. Source: over 1 year ago
  • More developers use Linux than Mac, according to 2022 StackOverflow survey
Same experience. For me Finder is simply unusable, not sure if I'm not used to it but the experience is terrible for me. So I prefer to do everything through the terminal or use some TUI like https://github.com/jarun/nnn The only time that I have to interact with the UI is when I have to do something on System Settings, which is also dreadful. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • dext: Sort files into directories based on file extensions
I do this with "organize" plugin from nnn file manager, it's a simple shell script using "file" command to identify files. More plugins. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Drag and Drop from Terminal
I use nnn[0] and it has a simple plugin[1] based on dragon. I can press `;d` and the dragon window pops up. It is an OK workflow IMO. I'm not sure if I can directly drag and drop from the terminal list somehow. Or better yet, a full keyboard workflow. 0: https://github.com/jarun/nnn/ 1: https://github.com/jarun/nnn/tree/master/plugins. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • What file explorer do you use?
Nnn (https://github.com/jarun/nnn) via https://github.com/luukvbaal/nnn.nvim It's a very similar solution to telescope-file-browser but since nnn is a standalone filemanager, I can use the same file explorer inside and outside Neovim. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Llama - Terminal File Manager
Is it because it's hard to embed the shell prompt into a file manager properly, so people prefer to use single pane file managers/file browsers (like this one, or lf, or ranger, or nnn, ) as shell functions - open, select a file, put it into the prompt? Source: over 1 year ago
  • With great power comes great responsibility...
Hey it's already done. Vifm or nnn; take your pick. I prefer nnn since it's faster. Source: over 1 year ago
  • New to Nix: Enabling NERD_ICONS during compilation for nnn
I'm new to NixOS and just trying to figure my way out in a VM by replicating my current machine's config on it (not using flakes atm). One piece of software I'm trying to figure out how to install is a terminal file viewer nnn. I see that it's already in the standard repos, but it doesn't come installed with NerdFont icons options precompiled. Looking at the source of the nixpkg, I see that there is withNerdIcons... • How to emulate map literals in C?
u/N-R-K followed up with a neat Robin Hood hash that's been merged into Nnn. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Need to otimize that function, any ideas?
Wanted to write this about a week ago but got busy with some other stuff, but the file manager I use (nnn) had to do a very similar task of looking up icons based on extension. I've always wanted to revamp that but never got around to it. This thread sort of gave me the push I needed. Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Looks like someone was way too dumb for Linux
These exist broot, ranger, lf, nnn, vifm. The main problem should be the drag and drop functionality. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Fd: A simple, fast and user-friendly alternative to 'find'
