Netbox. https://netbox.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ Your “Source of Truth” for your network. NetBox is an infrastructure resource modeling (IRM) application designed to empower network automation. Initially conceived by the network engineering team at DigitalOcean, NetBox was developed specifically to address the needs of network and infrastructure engineers. NetBox is made available as open source under the Apache... Source: about 2 years ago
  • What do you use to track disks and other hardware?
Currently we are using [SnipeIT](https://snipeitapp.com/) to track our disks, hardware and machines, and [Netbox](https://netbox.readthedocs.io/en/stable/) to track physical layout and locations. Source: about 2 years ago
  • What does a longer career related to computing infrastructure look like?
You might find it educational/interesting to have a look at Netbox. It's a fairly well respected piece of software that manages network hardware and configuration. Source: about 2 years ago
  • How does proper documentation look like?
You could take a look at netbox . It’s a little hard to set up at first but worth it in the end IMO. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Web Application That Shows Switch Ports Mapping
However I'd suggest that Netbox is the more modern and functional solution to this problem. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Preparing a datacenter move
Have a look at the tool like netbox to do this. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Various ways to document homelab
Currently a mix of a google sheet, some stuff in github, and a halfhearted attempt at using Netbox. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Suggestions: Replacement for Struxureware Data Center Operator
I am pretty sure Netbox (Open Source https://netbox.readthedocs.io/en/stable/) can do the cable documentation but not sure what the automated updated specs on racked equipment is. Netbox is more of a DCIM product where as "Struxureware Data Center Operator" might be 50% DCIM and 50% DC monitoring tool. You might be able to utilize like Netbox and its API to feed something like Zabbix or NAGIOS to do more of the... Source: about 2 years ago
  • Password Management for Home Network Devices
I have just documented my home network with Netbox. However, there is no option to capture the device passwords and login information. Source: about 2 years ago
  • What have you recently automated at work using python??
I am a Network Engineer and Sysadmin. I have been using tools like Netbox and phpIPAM for tracking IP Addresses, Subnets, VLANs, etc. Both of which provide excellent REST API functionality. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Best practices/approach for HA & DR for an nginx/postgres web app?
Tl;dr: I need advice on how best to make netbox HA with robust DR -- RTO <1hr, RPO 1hr increments for each day, some kind of reasonable GFS strategy after that. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Any recommendations for internal network inventory website?
I second this. I recently switched to Netbox from phpIPAM that I was using just for IPAM capabilities, but if you enter in the data Netbox works as so much more. The Ansible integration is great to use as a source of truth in playbooks/roles too. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Inventory - ITAM - CMDB ..
A tool that does everything you're looking for, may not exist. Netbox does seem to have much of it though. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Managing my circuits/carriers/DCs help
Was also going to suggest netboxhttps://netbox.readthedocs.io/en/stable/. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Storage of secrets not supported?
I'm finally getting around to installing Netbox and I seem to have missed the boat on a feature. Is the storage of secrets no longer available? I noted that you can see what I am talking abou in the install tutorial video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fpd2-q9_28 @ 0:20). It has been removed from the live main intro page (https://netbox.readthedocs.io/en/stable/). I can't find it anywhere in the demo either. Source: over 2 years ago
  • How do you manage resources like servers, accounts, accesses, switches?
If you're using hybrid cloud, multi-cloud, or fully on prem, I'd probably reach for something like Netbox which was build by DigitalOcean for this purpose. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Hacker News top posts: Aug 24, 2021
NetBox: Infrastructure resource modeling application for network automation\ (7 comments). Source: over 2 years ago
  • Rack Layout Software
I would probably go with netbox these days, also used rack tables in the past with good results! Source: over 2 years ago
  • Free Tools
I prefer phpIPAM for IP Address Management. It looks like the SolarWinds free tool has a limit of 254 addresses, whereas this tool is truly FOSS. If you want even more detail than that (such as labeling individual ports and what they connect to), I've also heard very good things about NetBox. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • What are you using for Internal Link/Resource pages?
I believe you're referring to netbox. However, it sounds like OP might be talking about web links, not network links? Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Process to Improve Change of Office IP
We're using NetBox which might or might not suit your use case as it's quite extensive with stuff that's not directly IP related. Source: about 3 years ago
