  • Architecture diagrams enable better conversations
And then you can perform further edits using something like https://asciiflow.com/ (web, free) or https://ivanceras.github.io/bob-editor/ (web, free) or https://monodraw.helftone.com/ (Mac only, proprietary) as mentioned in other comments from https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37040883. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
  • Typograms: A definition and renderer for ASCII diagrams
Typograms could be great with the monodraw app on macOS. I'm a very happy customer of monodraw-- not affiliated in any way. https://monodraw.helftone.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • Marp: Markdown Presentation Ecosystem
Admittedly, creating that asciiart by hand is obnoxious, but tools like monodrow https://monodraw.helftone.com/ make it easy. However, then we're right back at the question of why bother using markdown if you're making complicated graphics in another tool anyway. I love Monodraw and use it for many things (it can create svg and png and other formats not just ascii) but yeah, it doesn't seem like a great solution... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Architecture diagrams should be code
I’ve been using MonoDraw https://monodraw.helftone.com/ for this exact sort of stuff for years, was one of the main reasons I bought the program actually. A good diagram in a block comment right above or below done complicated code is a ready powerful way to make sure you’re going to be able to maintain that code in the future. I find flowchart style diagrams for finite state machines and UML(ish) sequence... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Monodraw – a non-subscription, powerful ASCII art editor
The given URL is about what's new in 1.6 and mostly boils down to: * "app icon, document icon and welcome window", * "ability to simultaneously edit multiple shapes of the same type", * "minimum OS requirement has been raised to macOS 11 Big Sur". For an overview of the software, see this URL: https://monodraw.helftone.com/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Explaining Code Using ASCII Art
There's this neat mac app called Monodraw. It costs 10 bucks but worth every penny because it's like a vector editor for ascii. I'd recommend it if you do a lot of textual diagrams and such. https://monodraw.helftone.com/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • figlet – a program for making large letters out of ordinary text
If you have a Mac, Monodraw [1] includes figlet - just select a Font from the rect/text tool. It also supports custom/additional figlet fonts. [1] https://monodraw.helftone.com. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • The Tools I Use to Write Books (2018)
Yup, correct. I used Monodraw [0] for that (and the diagrams in the book). Highly recommend Monodraw, easily one of the loveliest pieces of Mac software I used. And it just got an update! [0]: https://monodraw.helftone.com. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Ask HN: What are some good non-subscription Mac apps?
Monodraw - https://monodraw.helftone.com/ like paint but for ascii art I used it to come up with the new gitleaks logo: https://github.com/zricethezav/gitleaks. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Boss: "Write better comments."
I use Monodraw for exactly this purpose. I love that app! All diagrams in my documentations look like that :) Unfortunately, Monodraw is macOS only. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Show HN: Berkeley Mono Typeface
Yes, done by hand, a lot of elbow grease. Same with the animation which took an insane amount of time (700 frames). Shout out to MonoDraw (Berkeley Mono works wonderfully with it): https://monodraw.helftone.com/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
  • Maximizing results of eng job searches in 2022
Thank you for sharing https://monodraw.helftone.com/. I've been painfully documenting my code with hand crafted ASCII diagrams. Hopefully that ends today. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Graphviz: Open-source graph visualization software
Awesome! Since switching from Mac to Linux I've been really missing Monodraw[1] for generating diagrams suitable for code comments. Emacs artist-mode is nice but I struggled to get the hang of it, will definitely be trying this! [1] https://monodraw.helftone.com/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Diagon – Interactive ASCII art diagram generators
The best app I know of for this is Monodraw (https://monodraw.helftone.com/). - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • When to use an IPad
When it comes to visualizing one of those structures, I use Monodraw (https://monodraw.helftone.com/), which is a must have if you want good looking documentation. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Why is excalidraw so good?
I am not convinced that this is better ('hand drawn diagrams'). We've been drawing diagrams of all kinds for a very long time with no hurdles whatsoever [1]. This just reads like a hipster fetish over aesthetics, not substance. And if we're talking about aesthetics, I much prefer Monodraw [2]. That said, the app itself has great UX, especially onboarding. Just straight to drawing mode. Kind of like autodraw.io.... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • VLANs / CAPsMan / Oh man...(warning: lots o'text)
I used Monodraw for OSX because I like the UI and also use it for work related tasks. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Configuring multiple Ethernet connections in a linux server
I created the diagram using Monodraw. I highly recommend it if you are on macOS. Source: over 2 years ago
  • I'm the author of Rich and Textual, two highly starred Python projects on Github. AMA
Sounds similar to https://monodraw.helftone.com, but writing in Python could allow for cross-compatibility. Source: over 2 years ago
  • How do you include drawings in Swift source code (e.g.. to explain geometry calculations)? Is there a good way to do this in Xcode?
And Monodraw might make generating that easier. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Svgbob – create a graphical representation of your text diagrams
Check out monodraw[1] which could help you create charts like these! (I'm not affiliated with monodraw in any way.) [1]: https://monodraw.helftone.com/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
