  • Microsoft formally deprecates the 39-year-old Windows Control Panel
Some parts already have been open-sourced. For example, the console host component has been open sourced here: https://github.com/microsoft/terminal Maybe they could consider an Apple-style approach: open source the core of the kernel and text-mode user space but leave the GUI closed. Of course, open sourcing everything would be even better, but that might too big of a step for them. Open sourcing the non-GUI core... - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Giving up the iPad-only travel dream
I suppose the writer will have to wait a few more years before apple 'reinvents' the touch screen and convinces everyone they invented the touchscreen laptop. Notice how just about every other manufacture has a touch screen offering. The same was true for DVD writers back when apple called it the super drive. Many devices on the market came with DVD writers. The ipad pro as great as it is, will not replace a... - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
  • Downsides if Emacs in a terminal with Tmux?
In my case, I use Windows Terminal which is a free and more feature complete terminal program for Windows. I find its support for various ANSI terminal attributes more complete than say something like putty. However, it does have an issue with incorrectly handling C-spc. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Youtube's enhanced bitrate made regular 1080P suck! Any way to get around it?
I just use Windows Terminal (Preview version): https://github.com/microsoft/terminal and adjust its settings there. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Switching from Emacs. My experience
Either Wezterm OR Window-terminal I Personally use WindowTERM with alacritty * when needed Since WindowTerm has some weird ncurses issues ,. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Windows 11 in Svelte
The impression I got from reading through some of the Windows Terminal[0] issues/release notes, is that It's understandable that it's much slower and more challenging to make changes to functionality that's become part of Windows core. If something in PowerToys turns out to be a bad idea, it can be removed. It's much harder to justify that when it's been baked into the OS. [0] - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago
  • Yes, Adobe, you have my attention.
The new-ish Windows Terminal actually has support for most of the more widely used ANSI escape sequences for use in CLI, and unlike the older Windows Console, sequence processing is enabled by default. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Having a powershell script set as an environment variable?
I'd go with Windows Terminal https://github.com/microsoft/terminal tho, for customizability and support for a Bash / Shell, CMD, Windows PowerShell, PowerShell Core 7, VS 2019 / 2022 Developer CMD / PowerShell and pretty overall best CLI console experience on Windows. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Having a powershell script set as an environment variable?
Looking at the comments and question I think it's logical if the OP knows Linux commands you too could enable WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) included in Win 10 and 11. Then you can run Bash / Shell scripts and commands using Windows Terminal , Cygwin64, MinTTY, MinGW, Git-Bash, ConEmu, Cmder, MSYS2 + many more, these also work on older Windows that Windows Terminal doesn't support. You can at anytime type... Source: over 3 years ago
  • Yesterday I started to learn to host a server, finally made it work, but I was wondering if there's a way to make the command prompt easier on the eyes?
Use Windows Terminal: https://github.com/microsoft/terminal instead of boring CMD, you can change a lot in the settings, also use Paper. I wouldn't do a full on GUI like Pterodactyl it's too much effort if it's a small server. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Helppp!! Command Line is getting the best of me
For windows, I highly recommend downloading Windows Terminal off of the Store or from Github here: https://github.com/microsoft/terminal. Source: over 3 years ago
  • How can Sri Lankans stay up-to-date with the latest trends and opportunities?(Why do Sri Lankans residing in Sri Lanka fall behind in keeping up with the latest updates and trends?)
Now, this is the hardest bit, most of us are too poor to afford the latest and greatest tech and other new stuffs, but things which we can do, like installing a new program (Microsoft PowerToys, Windows Terminal and Windows Package Manager (Winget)) testing new softwares (Windows Insider Program, Apple Public Beta Program) are some ways to make us the early birds or early adopters without spending our precious... Are you referring to the cmd prompt or Windows Terminal? The latter ain't half bad, if you haven't given it a shot. Source: over 3 years ago
  • What is a recommended way to install Windows Terminal (and maybe winget) in LTSC?
    3) Get microsoft/terminal and install it manually. No updates for it unless it is downloaded and installed manually. No winget. Clean way but I'm unsure if I really won't lack winget. Source: over 3 years ago
