There are programs such as Meshmixer specifically intended to do that, others such as Blender which can do a good job (but beware of missing surfaces or inside-out triangles) and some CAD programs such as Fusion 360 which have the ability to convert meshes. Even Tinkercad can make some changes. It's always better to get a CAD file in a common interchange format such as a STP (STEP) file if you can, though. Source: over 3 years ago

But, like I say, Netfabb is no longer directly available. MeshMixer is still available, though, and may work for you. I wonder if a model could be uploaded to Shapeways and then downloaded - perhaps they might provide the cleaned-up version? (They use Netfabb.) I'm truly sorry I can't be of more help! The STL will not import directly into Inventor as a Solid. You will need to use something like Mesh Mixer to convert the STL to a solid type (STEP, IGS, etc.) file. Then you should be able to import the file into inventor and have it behave like a solid. Source: over 3 years ago

I was trying to download meshmixer today for some 3D printing projects I wanted to start and discovered that the meshmixer.com website doesn't seem to work anymore. I've tried hyperlinks from alternate websites but it appears the website itself just will not load. Does anyone know anythig about this or any alternative way I can download the software? Thanks. Hmm.. Rhino is not really strong with meshes. I use Mesh mixer instead. Its free. You can get it from meshmixer.com Here's a video that might be of help for fixing meshes. Source: over 4 years ago
Someone asked this question last night. I looked on Autodesks website last night myself and the links there sent you to the broken webpage at meshmixer.com.
