MedCoder.ai is a free medical coding reference for coders, billers, physicians, practice staff and HIM students. It is built from publicly available CMS, CDC, AHRQ and FDA source files and covers ICD-10-CM, HCPCS Level II, ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRG, CCSR clinical groupings, clinical lab NCD references, the NDC directory and modifiers. CPT is deliberately excluded (AMA-licensed).

Tools

• Compare: the Excludes1 or Excludes2 relationship between any two codes, with the tabular note quoted; more than 10,000 indexed code-pair relationships.
• Claim Check: paste up to 25 diagnosis codes and get every Excludes1 conflict, sequencing instruction, missing seventh character and non-billable header, each citing the CMS instruction it came from.
• ICD-10-PCS Builder: construct inpatient procedure codes character by character.
• Release ledger: every entry added, deleted or revised in the FY2027 ICD-10-CM update, effective October 1, 2026.
• Guides: 47+ human-reviewed editorial guides (Excludes1 vs Excludes2, sepsis sequencing, seventh character, Z codes as primary diagnosis).
• Embeddable lookup widget: one snippet adds a code search box to any website.
