  • Is this wrong? If so, why?
Russian word order is very flexible but not random; it's influenced by tone/register (formal? informal? Emotionally colored somehow?) and context (what's already been talked about, vs. new information). Unfortunately, there's no way that Duolingo's isolated sentences, with no hint of context or tone, can account for this. If you continue with Duolingo (I'd suggest you look at mangolanguages.com , which is free... Source: 10 months ago
  • language learning apps
Mango Languages might be good for them. Check with your library to see if you can get free access because it's free through many libraries. There's an app for it too. There's also Destinos for Spanish and NHK has a Japanese course. For ASL, there's ASL University. EdX and Alison have courses too, but they may be for an older audience. All of the ones I mentioned are free. Source: 12 months ago
  • I feel like doulingo is lying to me
In general, be ready for Russian to express things differently from English. Similarly, Как вас зовут? = What's your name? But как is not 'what,' вас is not 'your,' and зовут is not 'name' – the Russian is literally 'how you they call.' Whether Duolingo will explain those things is another matter... Mango languages does a better job of that IMO. Source: 12 months ago
  • "Could you repeat that?"
Mango Languages have this feature where you can align your own recording with that of a native. So no more a computer that judges you, you do it yourself. Just align the sounds and see if they sound the same when played at the same time. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Advice on Homeschooling my Little Brother
The school not having an ESL program for your cousin is a bit concerning but, there are ways to help him learn. You should check with the local library to see which resources they have available. My library gives access to Mango Languages and Transparent Language, which are pretty good for learning the basics of a new language quickly. I also found some websites here and here that may be helpful for him, and this... Source: about 1 year ago
  • What to focus on to learn enough Russian in 2 months to survive in pseudo-immersion environment?
Learning vocabulary is great, but you won't be able to do much with your words without grammar. If you're motivated to be able to speak as well as understand, be ready to spend some time with resources like https://mezhdunami.org or the New Penguin Russian Course, or https://mangolanguages.com, that will give you a balanced approach. Giving up on Duolingo behind is a good call IMHO. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Are there any interactive apps other than Duolingo that help teach Russian?
Try https://mangolanguages.com or its app. It's available for free through some public libraries. Better than Duolingo in that it encourages you to speak some, and explains bits of grammar as you go. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Where do I start?
Start with an organized course like the free one at https://mezhdunami.org, which you can supplement with lessons on iTalki. If you like apps, mangolanguages.com is better at explaining things as you go (and encouraging you to talk) than Duolingo. Source: over 1 year ago
  • By my self + No budget cause I'm a student
Here's the link. You could also ask your local library what language learning resources they might have. If you're in the US, your library might offer Mango for free. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Mondly and other available apps
Https://mangolanguages.com is available free through some libraries; it does a better job than Duolingo of explaining grammar as you go, and also encourages you to say things aloud. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I want to Learn Arabic, Can someone please guide me on how to start?
You can also try https://mangolanguages.com/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Having some troubles learning - any tips?
I recommend Mango Languages, they have specific classes for different dialects, they do a pretty good job of some basic concepts and learning some phrases, if you can already read and know the alphabet I definitely recommend Mango Languages its what I am using. Source: over 1 year ago
  • can this method work out?
I think you'll save yourself time and frustration by following a plan laid out by experienced teachers – something like https://mezhdunami.org or the Mango languages app or website, which explains relevant bits of grammar as you go. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Resources for Chinese parents to learn English
Some ideas: Mango Languages. It's not cheap but really works to improve all aspects. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What's the best way to learn Russian? (Serious answers please)
Take a look at mangolanguages.com – I think they do a good job of explaining bits of relevant grammar as you go. Some libraries offer free access. Also – https://mezhdunami.org, a free online textbook for beginners. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Online resources to learn Dari?
Mango Languages might be helpful.https://mangolanguages.com/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • what do I do!
Some libraries provide free access to mangolanguages.com, which I think does a better job explaining grammar than the Duolingo app. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Spanish based High School curriculum?
It's really important to get her learning English as soon as possible. Libraries have lots of great ESL resources. My local library has English classes online and at the branches, and they give free access to the full Mango Languages app and other online learning resources. Maybe this website can be helpful for learning how to teach her English. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Russian grammar is kinda confusing to me
Looking forward – Duolingo (especially the app) is not the best way to learn these essential building blocks of Russian. See if you can get free access to mangolanguages.com through a local library, or try the free online course at https://mezhdunami.org. Nicholas Brown's New Penguin Russian Course is also excellent. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Question about word order in Russian
Duolingo's isolated sentences provide zero context, and their coding doesn't seem to support alternate word orders – real weak points for a language like Russian. You might look at mangolanguages.com as an alternative, if you like working with an app. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Learning resources - are there any particular grammar books that you can recommend me, please?
The Mango Languages app/website has a more conversational approach, with audio, also explaining grammar as you progress; check to see if your local library provides free access. Source: almost 2 years ago
