Very smart and dedicated single developer (this is feasible for an email client since the protocol is stable and doesn't change very much), an active mailing list and user community. So I ended up giving MailMate a go and I've been impressed with its performance, but it crashed once or twice and some of the UI seemed a little buggy to me. Entering tags didn't always work first time and I couldn't confirm the tag entry with my kayboard, had to click elsewhere in the window. Source: almost 3 years ago
