One option is network booting: https://ltsp.org/ LTSP can also work with clients that have local hard disks to cache operating system files so it doesn't have to download the whole thing every reboot. At that point, any time you want to "restore" the machine to a clean state you just reboot it. Perhaps even on a schedule (nightly), or after every logout. Source: over 2 years ago

Newbie to linux here. I tried to set up a server with Lubuntu 16.04 and LTSP, followed the guide from ltsp.org how to install dnsmasq and configure a server with 2 NIC. Managed to install it but when I try network boot from a client I get TFTP open timeout. Systemctl status dnsmasq.service shows active service but no servers in /etc/resolv.conf.
