People learning a new language who like to read, from beginners to advanced learners, and who want vocabulary to stick through stories instead of drills. It works on the web and in Telegram, across 16 languages.
React and TypeScript on the web, Postgres, the Telegram Bot API, and large language models to adapt stories and books to each reader's level and vocabulary.
You read a story in your own language, and the words you're learning are woven into it. The words come from your own vocabulary list, not a textbook. At beginner level only a few words in each chapter are in the new language, and they repeat until the story makes them obvious. As you level up, more of the story switches over, until you're reading mostly in the language you're learning.
Most language apps have you either drill flashcards or read a text you can't understand yet. LinguaLex sits in between: new vocabulary arrives in context, inside a story you can follow, instead of on a flashcard. Tap any word to save it and it comes back in later chapters until it sticks. Stories and real books are adapted to your level, and it's free to start with one new chapter per day.
I wanted something between flashcards and reading a book I couldn't understand yet. So I built LinguaLex: you read a story in your own language with the words you're learning woven in, and as you level up more of the story switches to the new language.
