Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing KNJ.
  1. What makes KNJ unique?

KNJ Panel is built directly on real Linux services โ€” its own DNS zone editor talks to a real BIND9 nameserver, its mail stack is real Postfix/Dovecot, and every provisioning action runs through an audited privileged script rather than a black-box abstraction layer. It's not a UI wrapped around someone else's automation โ€” it's the automation itself.

  2. Why should a person choose KNJ over its competitors?

It's self-hosted with no per-account licensing markup layered on top of infrastructure you already own, and every feature โ€” DNS, mail, backups, cron, 2FA, firewall access control โ€” is built from scratch specifically for it rather than bundled in from disparate open-source projects with inconsistent UX. For teams who want to see and control exactly what's running their hosting stack, that transparency is the whole point.

  3. How would you describe the primary audience of KNJ?

Small-to-mid-size hosting providers and technically-minded site owners who currently run cPanel/WHM, Plesk, or a DIY stack and want a modern, self-hosted alternative without vendor lock-in or per-account licensing fees.

  4. Which are the primary technologies used for building KNJ?

Laravel (PHP) for the application layer, MariaDB for storage, Nginx + PHP-FPM for serving, and the real underlying Linux services it manages directly: BIND9 (DNS), Postfix/Dovecot (mail), vsftpd (FTP), and ufw/fail2ban (firewall/security).

  5. What's the story behind KNJ?

I've used pretty much every hosting panel out there over the years โ€” Hestia and others โ€” and they all fell short somewhere, usually missing features I actually needed for reseller hosting. So I kept crawling back to cPanel, because it genuinely does everything... except the license price has gotten ridiculous, and it just kept climbing. Eventually I thought "fine, I'll build my own." The goal is everything cPanel does, plus the features it doesn't have โ€” proper DNS, a real mail server, multi-tenant accounts, the whole WHM/cPanel-style split. Not a reskin, not a fork โ€” built from scratch.
