1. What makes Kinu unique?

   Most tools for staying in touch borrow their shape from sales software: pipelines, streaks, scores. Kinu is built to be calm instead.

   You can set someone to low energy or paused when you do not have much to give, and nothing guilts you about it. Rituals let you keep a Sunday call with your mom without a streak counter watching. Each morning Kinu suggests one person you might want to reach out to, and ignoring it costs you nothing.

   Nothing is pulled from your email, calendar, or social accounts. You decide what is worth remembering, it stays on your device, and it comes back when it matters.

2. Why should a person choose Kinu over its competitors?

   Most personal CRMs want your inbox, your calendar, and your contacts, then use AI to decide who you should talk to. That is genuinely useful if you manage relationships for a living.

   If you only want to remember that your friend just got a dog, that her sister is ill, and that she has been quiet for a month, it is far more machinery than the job needs. Kinu asks for none of that access. You write down what matters, and a gentle reminder brings it back when it has been a while.

   It runs on iPhone and Android with a desktop companion, works offline, and is free for up to 10 people.

   People who want to keep a small number of relationships, not build a professional network.

   In practice that tends to be people carrying the quiet guilt of not reaching out, people in a demanding stretch of life such as new parents and carers, people whose closest friends live in other time zones, and people who left social media and lost the ambient sense of who was doing what.

4. What's the story behind Kinu?

   It started with a photo. Two boys on a dock, sunburnt, maybe twelve. For over ten years our families spent every summer in the same place, and we picked up each year exactly where we left off.

   I have not spoken to him in about a decade. I do not have his number. I am not sure which city he lives in. Nothing happened. The thread just quietly went slack, and neither of us noticed until it was too late to tie back.

   The same pattern ran through every chapter after that. Kinu exists because I did not want that to keep happening by default. Not an app for managing people, just a private place to hold the small things and a nudge when it has been a while.

5. Which are the primary technologies used for building Kinu?

   Kinu is local first. Everything you write is saved on your device before anything else, so the apps work fully offline, and syncing across devices is optional and encrypted. The iOS and Android apps are built with React Native and Expo, and the web app with Next.js.
