Karuzip is a free file extractor and compressor for Windows. The website installer supports Windows 10/11; the Microsoft Store package requires Windows 11.
It reads an archive before it writes anything. You see the filenames and the folder structure first, so when the names come out as junk you can fix them before the files land on your disk - switch between UTF-8, Japanese (CP932), Simplified Chinese (GBK) and Traditional Chinese (Big5) until the names read correctly, then extract.
What it does - Extracts 320 file extensions. 230 of them are verified by automated runs or samples, and 12 of the main ones are also verified against real files. - Creates ZIP, 7z, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ and WIM archives. - Adds right-click extraction and compression commands. The Microsoft Store package offers a Karuzip submenu in the first Windows 11 context menu. - Handles split archives such as .zip.001, .7z.001 and .part1.rar. - Creates and extracts password-protected ZIP and 7z; 7z can encrypt the filenames as well. Passwords you type are never written to settings, history or logs. - Scrolls archives with tens of thousands of entries, and extracts only the files you select. - On cancel or failure it removes only the partial output it created itself. Folders that already existed are never deleted.
What it does not do - RAR is extract-only. Karuzip cannot create RAR archives. - You cannot choose a character encoding when compressing - only when extracting. - The Microsoft Store package requires Windows 11 (21H2 or later). There is no macOS or Linux build.
The interface is available in English and Japanese and can be switched in Settings; the right-click menu and the file type names follow that setting. Completely free, with no locked features, no ads, no bundled software and no account. Nothing about your files or your usage is sent anywhere - everything runs on your PC.
