Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Jotted App.
  1. How would you describe the primary audience of Jotted App?

Freelancers, consultants, coaches, and small agencies. People who take client calls, don't always host them, and need a record of what was agreed.

Also anyone who attends meetings they didn't organize and can't use the host's built-in recording, or whose company is on a plan where recording isn't available.

  2. What makes Jotted App unique?

Two things at once. Jotted doesn't send a bot into your call, so nothing appears in the participant list and the meeting feels normal. And it keeps the full video, which almost every bot-free tool throws away after transcribing.

Most tools make you pick one or the other. Bot tools keep the recording but announce themselves. Bot-free tools stay invisible but leave you holding a summary with nothing to check it against.

  3. Why should a person choose Jotted App over its competitors?

If a client ever remembers a call differently to you, a transcript summary isn't much use on its own. Jotted keeps the video, so you can go back to the moment and play what was actually said.

The free plan is also unusual. Unlimited recording length, no monthly cap, no watermark, and transcription that runs on your own computer rather than being uploaded anywhere. Most free tiers cap you at a few meetings or a set number of minutes.

Pro is $14 a month with no caps of any kind.

  4. What's the story behind Jotted App?

Jotted came out of hundreds of client meetings that went badly recorded.

The usual notetakers were the obvious place to start. They work, but a bot shows up in the participant list and people talk differently once it does. Clients ask what it is. Sometimes their IT blocks it. And the recording lives on their servers, not yours, so if you stop paying it goes with them.

Screen recording was the next attempt. That gave a video file we actually owned, and usually a transcript with it. But a transcript is not a summary, and it is not a list of what everyone agreed to do. So the transcript went into a third tool to get the action items out.

Three tools, two subscriptions, and part of every afternoon spent moving things between them.

None of them were bad. They were each missing something the others had. The notetakers wrote up the meeting properly but kept the recording. The screen recorders handed you the file and left you to work out what happened in it.

Clients felt it too. They would dig through thin notes for a figure someone quoted, or ask for something to be resent because they remembered the deal differently. The meeting itself, the one thing that could settle any of it, was rarely somewhere anyone could reach.

So Jotted does the whole job. It records from your desktop, keeps the video and every word on your own computer, and has the summary and action items written by the time you hang up. One tool, one price, and the recording is yours.

  5. Which are the primary technologies used for building Jotted App?

Jotted is a native desktop app built with Electron and TypeScript, currently Windows-first.

Transcription runs locally using Whisper, so audio never leaves the machine to be transcribed. That is what makes the free plan work without any cloud cost.

The cloud side, for Pro, runs on Supabase with Postgres, and recordings are stored in Cloudflare R2. The site is hosted on Cloudflare.

AI meeting notes and Quill are powered by Anthropic's Claude. Payments run through Dodo.
