I'm surprised at the lack of comparisons to the Jamboard (https://workspace.google.com/products/jamboard/). Even the promotional images look similar. Also, while not explicitly targeting collaboration, v3 of the Remarkable firmware has added an endless canvas feature which has been nice. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
It is worth noting that Both Google [1] (since 2016) and Microsoft [2] (since 2018 ?) have their own collaborative whiteboard app. Yet Miro is almost the only one everyone is talking about. Maybe because it is by far the unique unicorn in the space (17B valuation/2012). Or is it the other way around ? I like the expression "never underestimate the power of the default app" (already used in this thread). Well this... - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago

Google Jamboard, part of the G Suite family, has been increasingly recognized as a robust tool for digital whiteboarding and team collaboration. This platform is appreciated for unlocking creative potential through its real-time co-authoring capabilities, a feature that allows teams to collaborate seamlessly whether they are in the same room with multiple Jamboards or distributed across the globe using the Jamboard app. Integration with other Google services, such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, adds to its appeal, facilitating a cohesive work environment.
However, despite its utility, Jamboard faces several scrutiny points when compared to its competitors like Miro, Conceptboard, Mural, and others. One of the frequent criticisms is the cost, as highlighted in articles discussing lower-cost alternatives to digital whiteboards. Users often find Jamboard's pricing steep, especially in environments looking for budget-friendly solutions. Moreover, while the product interface on the web is generally well-received, the mobile application interface has received comparatively less enthusiasm from users.
In terms of functionality, certain limitations of Jamboard are often pointed out. For instance, its canvas navigation does not allow for vertical scrolling, functioning more like slides with separate pages. This feature is seen as cumbersome when attempting to track progress across multiple sections, such as in educational settings. Another limitation is the inability to upload PDF documents directly, which can hinder discussions that involve workbooks and textbooks traditionally shared in PDF formats.
The discourse surrounding digital whiteboard solutions frequently positions Miro at the forefront, largely due to its expansive feature set and significant market valuation. This has overshadowed alternative offerings by giants like Google and Microsoft, leading to comparisons framed around features and user preference rather than comprehensive capabilities.
While Jamboard has established itself firmly among collaborative tools, especially for existing users of Google's suite of products, there seems to be a gap in fully leveraging its capabilities among broader audiences who may already lean towards more renowned platforms like Miro or emerging ones like Apple's Freeform. As innovations in collaborative tools drive forward, integrating more user-centric features and cost-effective solutions will be crucial for Jamboard to enhance its competitive edge in an increasingly crowded marketplace. The user feedback suggests a consistent appreciation of its ease of integration with Googleโs ecosystem, but also points towards areas for improvement, especially in feature versatility and pricing.
