  • I'm frustrated and seeking advice for learning German
Unless you enjoy grammar, that is. But anything that makes it more of a slog (less fun) will be deadly to you now. AT this point it's not about remembering the exact correct declention of Dativ, Genetiv, etc. I honestly think that just comes with practice, practice, practice. Trying to remember the rules at this stage (unless you enjoy that sort of thing) will just make you hate German. Practicing is what you... Source: over 1 year ago

  • Brit here, how's my American accent?
Practice the phrase "as well as", focusing on the "a". You can try italki.com to book a session with someone from the United States to get live feedback (italki is a language-learning app/website, but I imagine you can probably use it for these purposes as well; I previously asked someone on italki to let me record them speaking a certain text so I could practice copying them. It's up to them whether they say yes... Source: over 1 year ago
  • I am going to start learning Russian next week. Can someone give me advice?

Anyway, I'd really appreciate some input. Anyone take the Basic or Premium courses at Camões? Is the material and presentation the same as the self-learning version? Are the tutors worth getting up at 4am for? Or would I be better off taking the self-learning course and hiring a tutor from italki.com? Any other thoughts or impressions are welcome! • [IWantOut] 15M USA -> Anywhere
Learning a language -- my experience was that US high school language instruction didn't stick. • How to improve?
This is the crux of languagetransfer.org I believe, the podcasts focus on cognates, or words that are similar in spanish>english. In addition to LT, I also use dreamingspanish.com and duolingo. My next step is to put aside my fear, and begin my online tutoring with italki.com, which I've already funded, but not yet started... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Best app or way to learn Spanish, specifically speaking?
To my experience, learning a language includes three steps: (1) good old-fashioned alone-at-your-desk-late-at-night grammar/conjugation/vocabulary study, (2) speaking practice, (3) listening practice. I can't recommend a program for #1 but for #2 I recommend hiring a tutor or two on italki.com and for #3 I too recommend Dreaming Spanish. I don't see any speaking practice in your post. Go to italki.com, spend a few bucks on a tutor (or two) and start speaking on a regular basis.
