I've been self hosting my email for a long time and you can send large amounts of email (at least as large as most people would care to grow newsletters anyway) independently and even if you can't there are many providers that will help you do it, some like ImprovMX which let you essentially borrow the trust of their MX records. Another solution to this problem is relaying through services which will do the heavy lifting for you (this was been discussed in the original thread, here and in the article I wrote). What link did you use? I go to their metasploit.com and get directed to https://app.vagrantup.com/rapid7/boxes/metasploitable3-ub1404 that doesn't require any email to download. For further reference, if you ever need non-generic domain for email (basically how they tell your email is "company"), just create an MX record on a domain in https://freedns.afraid.org/subdomain/ pointed using https://improvmx.com/ to... I've been using https://improvmx.com for years. Totally free and I can basically setup whatever email addresses I want for my domain (just using a wildcard catchall) and have them all forward on to a single gmail account. Source: almost 3 years ago

For e-mail forwarding you can use https://improvmx.com, or if you feel ambitious you can use Amazon SES, but that's a pain in the ass and I try to avoid it unless I need to for clients these days. Source: about 3 years ago
The only hitch so far is that improvmx.com does not do smtp for free. You have to pay for that, and god knows I am allergic to paying for stuff. Lucky sendinblue.com will let you send up to to 300 messages a day for free, so go and set up an account with them. Make sure to do the full set up or it will look like it is working but it will not work. Put in a business name (just say personal) and a street... Source: about 3 years ago
