It really is hard to leave Gmail when all of your data has been conveniently stored therein. This is one of Google's retention strategies and it is indeed brilliant. That said, there's a vast number of self-hosted alternatives like Stalwart Mail (email) [1], Immich (images) [2], NextCloud (Google Docs) [3], etc. [1] https://stalwa.rt [2] https://immich.app [3] https://nextcloud.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 15 days ago
Last year we added CLIP-based image search to https://immich.app/ and even though I have a pretty good understanding of how it works, it still blows my mind damn near every day. It's the closest thing to magic I've ever seen. - Source: Hacker News / 18 days ago
I’m a big fan of https://immich.app/ and I use it every day for thousands of assets. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
Real-world applications often require complex queries that go beyond simple Approximate Nearest Neighbor (ANN) search. To explore a practical example of such applications, let's take a closer look at immich, a self-hosted photo and video backup solution that highlights the importance of advanced vector and traditional relational queries. - Source: dev.to / about 2 months ago
Why that one specifically? Doesn't say anything about free or open source. I use this one. https://immich.app/. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago

- When there's no more space on the device, the app fails to upload new pictures, but gives no error message. All in all, Piwigo is a solid 7.5/10 for me, but I'm watching and testing some other active software such as https://immich.app/. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
For photos I recommend Immich (https://immich.app/) - recently switched from nextcloud to immich and it's ridiculous that this is free and opensource software - it feels so premium. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
This is a similar project but fully open source (and probably less mature). The lead dev is very active and responsive. https://immich.app/. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
For photo I use Immich. For contact and calendar I use my own mail server (iRedMail). For Cloud I have my own nextcloud server. With nextcloud you can sync contact and calendar of uou don't have a mail server likes iRedMail. Source: 10 months ago
Or, you can keep your VPS running 24/7, with mailcow.email for your emails, immich.app for your photos, nextcloud for your calendar and contacts. Use a second SMTP relay as a backup, they will receive your emails if your main SMTP is down for more than one week, which is the procedure. Source: 11 months ago
