Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Ignyq.
  1. What makes Ignyq unique?

Ignyq puts a full investment-analysis and financial-planning suite into one desktop app that runs entirely on your own computer. There's no bank aggregation and no cloud account — your holdings live in an encrypted file on your machine — yet you still get 45+ analysis tools, a 38+ tool planning suite, and bring-your-own-key AI research. Most tools do either analysis or planning, and nearly all of them want your data on their servers. Ignyq does both, locally, and you can buy it once instead of renting it forever.

  2. Why should a person choose Ignyq over its competitors?

Three reasons: your financial data never leaves your machine (nothing to aggregate, nothing to breach), analysis and retirement planning live in one app instead of five, and you can buy a lifetime license instead of paying forever. The trade-off is honest — there's no automatic bank sync, so you import holdings from CSV. If you want that privacy and depth in software you own, Ignyq is built for you; if you mainly need automatic transaction syncing, a budgeting app will serve you better.

  3. How would you describe the primary audience of Ignyq?

Self-directed individual investors who manage their own portfolios and care about privacy — people who research their own holdings, run their own retirement and FIRE numbers, and would rather keep their financial data on their own computer than in someone's cloud. It skews toward hands-on, DIY investors, often within fifteen years of retirement, who are happy to import a CSV in exchange for owning both their data and their software.

  4. What's the story behind Ignyq?

Ignyq was built by a solo founder who spent 28 years writing mission-critical software at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory — the kind that has to work the first time. When he started managing his own investments, he was frustrated by stitching together five different tools that all wanted his data on their servers and a monthly fee. So he built Ignyq the way he built flight software: local-first, private, and engineered to be owned rather than rented.

  5. Which are the primary technologies used for building Ignyq?

Python with a native tkinter/matplotlib desktop UI, packaged natively per operating system. Data is stored locally in a SQLCipher-encrypted database on the user's own machine. Builds are EV-code-signed on Windows and notarized on macOS. AI research is bring-your-own-key, calling the user's chosen provider (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, or Copilot) directly from their machine.
