    Most AI receptionist tools were built for tech-forward US SMBs and stopped at the phone call. Spending time with British service businesses made it clear that model was incomplete. Plumbers, salons and contractors were not running their inbound on calls alone. WhatsApp was already the company inbox, with email and SMS close behind, but no one was solving the receptionist problem across all of those channels at once.

    Jodie was started in 2025 to be the actual inbound layer for small businesses, not just a phone agent. The product launched as an AI receptionist for calls and quickly extended into WhatsApp, SMS, email, Facebook Messenger and LinkedIn. The thesis is that the right unit is not "AI for phone calls" but "AI for every channel a customer reaches the business on." Now in private beta with WhatsApp, expanding the channel mix month by month.

    Jodie's real-time voice stack is built on LiveKit, ElevenLabs, and the OpenAI and Google Gemini real-time APIs. Telephony runs on Twilio. The application backend is Laravel, with React and Next.js on the web, native iOS, and a cross-platform mobile client. The messaging layer uses the official WhatsApp Business API alongside the corresponding APIs for Facebook Messenger, SMS, email and LinkedIn. Underneath every channel sits a single agent runtime that holds conversation state, intent, and end-action policies in one place, so the customer experience stays consistent whether they call, message, or email.
