  • Tracking bought/sold ETF or Crypto?
If you're dealing with other currencies it might get a little more tricky, but those rates can also be fetched in googlespreadsheets. If you want a plug & play method https://google.com/finance/. Source: over 2 years ago
  • AH volume was 8mill ish checking at 5pm now its 22k?
Perhaps that was a spot trade volume? I like to use google.com/finance to follow afterhours. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Share Price look-up using GOOGLEFINANCE won't load TSE:CM-O
What is interesting, is that your link to google.com/finance requires the ticker in for CM-O:TSE while the GOOGLEFINANCE function requires it in form TSE:CM-O. Source: over 3 years ago
  • BBBY being censored by Google Finance???
Google Finance (google.com/finance) allows you to browse lists of most active stocks measured by volume and price movement. Despite BBBY having gained +21.83% with 80M+ volume today it is no where to be seen on their lists. They also usually show badges next to hot stocks such as "Most active" or "Gainers" but they do not show them on BBBY. If I remember correctly I saw them earlier this week, but since then it... Summary of the public mentions of Google Finance

Public Opinion on Google Finance

Google Finance, a well-recognized player in the realm of financial news and stock market information, is commonly appreciated for its accessibility and ease of use. It holds a prominent position in the market, often competing with platforms like Alpha Spread, TradingView, and Gurufocus. However, user sentiment reveals a spectrum of opinions highlighting both its strengths and areas for improvement.

Strengths

A significant advantage of Google Finance is its integration with the Google ecosystem, which enhances usability, particularly for users familiar with Googleโ€™s suite of products. Its ability to provide a consolidated view of financial news, stock market updates, and essential company financials such as Profit & Loss (P&L) statements and Balance Sheets, is lauded for offering a comprehensive single-page resource. Users find this particularly helpful for gaining a rapid overview of stock performance. Additionally, the platformโ€™s unique feature of overlaying news events on stock price charts stands out for investors interested in understanding the impact of news on stock price movements.

The integration of Google Finance functionalities into Google Sheets is another frequently mentioned advantage, enabling users to track various currencies and other market data efficiently. This feature appeals to users who prefer a plug-and-play method to manage data conveniently in spreadsheets.

Opportunities for Improvement

Despite its benefits, Google Finance has faced criticism regarding its charting capabilities. A 2021 review ranked its charting tools relatively low, pointing to the need for enhancements to meet the sophisticated needs of active traders and technical analysts. The review highlights Google Finance as a competent tool for basic financial information but suggests that its charting weakness could deter users looking for more advanced functionalities found in specialized platforms.

Another point of contention is the perceived inconsistency in stock listing visibility, as highlighted by users who noticed irregularities in how active stocks are displayed. This has led to accusations of censorship, particularly when specific stocks with significant volume and price movement failed to appear in Google Financeโ€™s active stock lists, fostering frustration and distrust among users.

Moreover, users have noted differences in ticker symbols required between Google Finance and the GOOGLEFINANCE function in spreadsheets, which can create confusion. This discrepancy underlines an area where Google could improve by standardizing code input methods across its platforms.

Recent Developments

A recent development is the introduction of Google Finance as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which potentially enhances accessibility and flexibility. However, users have expressed curiosity about whether the PWA version offers any functionalities beyond what is available on the website, indicating a demand for further clarification and enhancements in the user experience.

In summary, while Google Finance is recognized for its streamlined design and integration with Google tools, it faces criticisms primarily related to its charting capabilities and occasional inconsistencies in stock listings. Addressing these concerns could significantly bolster its reputation and utility among investors, particularly those seeking more robust analytical tools.
