For sure there's the big 2 subscription services, but there's also a lot of good indie comics(for free & paid) on globalcomix. There's a wider variety of stories than just cape stuff, but there are plenty of those too (including mine). Source: almost 2 years ago
That's largely what Global Comix is. The confusing thing, though, is that it used to be clear that they had an unlimited membership program (similar to Comixology Unlimited) on their main page, which I thought was their main model for reading, but now I don't seem to see that unless I bring up a comic listing that requires payment to purchase. Hey! I recently learned about https://comicfury.com/, so I'm thinking about moving there. Also https://globalcomix.com/ seems to be way kinder to non-romance comics. Source: about 2 years ago
Global Comix is probably the closest alternative to Comixology Unlimited and is an entirely subscription model. It started picking up steam after the Comixology mess-up last year, but it still doesn't have many big name publishers involved (Top Cow, Heavy Metal, Humanoids, and Valiant are some of the more well known ones). You may want to look into a subscription for https://globalcomix.com too. They’ve partnered with several publishers including r/AWAStudios, r/ScoutComics, r/SourcePoint, and also have a large collection of independent artists publishing their own content. The annual fee isn’t too bad and they have several deals throughout the year to subscribe at an even lower price. Source: almost 3 years ago

Drivethrucomics.com does PDFs and print on demand. Most of their business comes from role playing games and their partnership with Wizards of the Coast. globalcomix.com is another site with a comixology-like reader. Pretty small though. Source: about 3 years ago
