    It sounds like you still have a bit to learn about history. On think that helped for me was this interactive map. You can type in any date and go backwards and forwards in time to see how empires rise and fall. It's great for role playing purposes, and you can click on any faction and it'll direct you to their wiki page and other resources if you want to learn more about their history.     This is a somewhat accurate map of the world in 500. It's not easy to know what tribes would count to be added on the map, but if you zoom in you might see some that probably deserve to be there. Hope it helps. Source: almost 2 years ago
