For context: I recently set up a Funkwhale[0] instance [1] for Communick subscribers, where people can upload their music collection, stream on mobile/web and share with their friends. That's useful already and can be thought of as a replacement to the original Google Play Music, but I guess that those with large music collections will either just play from their dedicated devices or self-host a service like... - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago
I use my own service, but have heard great things about https://funkwhale.audio/. Source: 12 months ago
I run Funkwhale. I can listen to my songs online from the browser, or on my phone using the Subsonic protocol (I use an app called dsub on Android). Source: about 1 year ago
For multi-room-audio, I use Iris+Mopidy+Snapcast [2] alternative frontend to my Funkwhale library. [1]: https://funkwhale.audio/ [2]: https://github.com/jaedb/Iris. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
I hear funkwhale can also do comments. Worth checking it out too. Source: about 1 year ago
I enjoy Miniflux as well. Second app that comes to my mind: Funkwhale. Never seen a better UI. Source: over 1 year ago

For those going down this path, Funkwhale[1] provides a good user experience with ActivityPub support to join/build a community. [1] https://funkwhale.audio/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
My Server runs Proxmox; I have several Unprivileged LXC Container which run individual Docker Systems inside (another blog post on this); one such is the Iris/Mopidy Container that acts like a "audio-gateway" in my setup. My iris container is based off the official docker-compose.yml. If not playing multi-room audio, I do prefer Funkwhale - I have my own private Funkwhale instance, that plays local mp3 files... I used Funkwhale for a bit, which works pretty well for music streaming with your own audio collection. You need to host it yourself (which was what I was looking for in my case, but may be more complex if you've not set up those sorts of things before), and it was pretty finicky with tagging. Getting things tagged properly in my old music collection was what made me give up on it in the end, but your mileage may... Source: almost 2 years ago
I would have said Funkwhale, which is precisely for music artists hosting their own music, and it is socially oriented. However, commenting on a track is not a feature currently available. It was proposed, but no one seems to have worked on it. Source: almost 2 years ago
You could take a look at Funkwhale which is a django project. You'll want to check the licensing (AGPL v3) to figure out if it works for your use case. But if nothing else it will give you some ideas as to what is possible. Source: almost 2 years ago
They also have a mentality for documentation as a firct class member, which is really important for OSS and self-hosting. You'd have to look hard to find any outdated piece of information or lazy written part in the docs. [1]: https://funkwhale.audio/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago

I think MusicBrainz did a great job to find some common agreed denominator between all these styles and formats for music metadata. After setting up Funkwhale [1], I went through all my 16000 MP3s and synced those with the MusicBrainz Library, also adding new entries. It went pretty smooth and my library looks much better now. It is also really fun to listen again, when everything is structured and labeled. (btw.,... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
